Hello everyone I have not posted or checked in a while.I'm going through a confusing senario as of now.How are you guys feeding your pups.Chico is now 21 weeks and just turned 50 pounds on the vet scale. He looks great he is eating Royal Canine pup 32 large breed.I have been feeding him 3 times a day 5:45am 12:30pm 6:30pm each serving a heavy cup.Now I was reading with his new age he should be eating 5-7 cups a day.My vet mentioned now feed him 2 times a day but really did not get into quanity. So any input would be great.

I don't know much about that feed, but 5-7 cups daily seems an awful lot...what breed is your dog? 50 pounds is huge for a 5 month old American Pit BUll Terrier. Also "large breed" formulas are not the best choice for American Pit Bull Terriers, naturally, because they are medium sized dogs...my dog gets 2 1/2 cups daily at 16 months and weights about 48 lbs...nearly fully mature
I agree with the switch daily feedings though. Post some pictures of your pup if you dont mind Good luck |

Just looooove the instructions on dog food bags
![]() Mine, by instructions say my dogs should be getting 7 cups a day!!! At 2 cups a day they are tethering on overweight/as a matter of fact, they were just cut back by half a cup last night! When they reach an ideal weight again, we will work on it again, more exercise(Though I dont see how much more we can get!!) and adjust as needed. I think it is a never ending battle-adjusting and readjusting. |

He is really big for his age, he may be eating too much. Royal Canine is not the best food on the market, though I will have to say it is better then Iams, ProPlan or others. My Rocky is 7 months old and he gets 2 cups in the morning and two in the afternoon and most of the time he still has food in his dish the next morning. He eats Wellness so it does not have any grain fillers such as corn so they will eat less of the really good stuff. I would say follow your Vets advice. Could you post a pic of him? I would love to see him.

I agree with husky it all depends on the dog and how they take to the food.
Hades is 63'ishlbs @ 3 years old and Roxy is 93lbs @ almost 4 and they both eat once a day, one cup per day. I feed a grain free, single protein source kibble that's extremely high in protein, about twice the amount of average kibbles (around 44%, normal kibbles are usually in the low twenties). pitchik brought up a good point about feeding guidelines on bags though. They are quite high of course because they want you to feed more so you buy more. I'd be surprised if the average dog needs the amount posted on the bag. |
