Default bit of help please
well i guess i start off with a bit of background. i have a 2 year old pit bull she is my best friend. i got out of the military after being shot up and i had a friend that had a female pit pregnate i got of of the puppies. well when the mother went into labor she only liked a few hours after puppies got to feed for there first time after she had died but sence i had nothing but time i bottle fed the runt every two hours all the way till she was 7 weeks and i got her on can dog food. she has grewn to 68 lb. sweet temper and i spend around 15-20 minutes 6 times a day training her she and i both love it.

well about a month ago i got a lab know for recueing animals in the area i get alot dropped off and rehomed around here tend to keep the pits and rotties scared someone will fight them i got 6 of them now all with there own kennels and everyone of them with time with me training and jogging with them.

well i was walking past the lab after feeding her < burban the female pit i love so much follows me everwere even to town to eat and such. well after placeing the food in the labs bowl i walked past her and pet her on the head headed to feed the rest of the dogs well burban rolled under her bite and broke her leg then latched onto her neck. i yelled freeze < first comand i teach they are to stop and lay were they are no matter what> she did as comanded i sent her for time out in her corner. and got the lab up put her in my truck and took her to the vet bringing burban along so vet could tell me if there was a reason for it injury or what not. well lab lived and now i isolate burban from the other days she allways played with the males the lab first female and she attackd her never even showed any agression toward males or at the dog park in orgen never even growled at a dog.

a cop pulled me over the other day for my known lead foot. he approuched the truck and burban growled hackles on end i told her to lay and calm down she layed down hole time growling cop. had me step out and lock her inside i understand and hold no hard feeling for that. and when a freind came over to the house i have to lock her up. or she stays tence watching her mussle bunch in her back laying at my feet she will muffle growl the hole time if its an hour or 5 hours before my friend leaves she stays growling. i scauled her and put her in time out but doesnt seem to be working.

me and my friend went to the park. put a blanket down and was eating and burban layed in her lap never growling as soon as we got back to the house burban began to growl second my friends car pulled up in the drive. i am slightly stumped on why and how to brake it. in the two years of her life no one has come to the house. for the most part she has allways been around people in the city with no problems. a kid hit her with a rock in the park she just layed down < not saying i did 13 yar old kid about cried before i was done talking to him. kid said he hated pit bulls because they was meen i laughed saying who was meen the prick that throws a rock at a dog or the dog that laid down. out side the house someoen could kick her she lay down they approuch me with intent to hurt another story. it would take all her and i training to keep that person attached to there arm. at the house i tell her what to do she does it.

i raised german shepards as a child and allways had the roll of alpha and with burban it is the same. until my friend shows up she still lissens to me but with an edge on every comand is i say sit she will sit but not fully is i say lay she will lay with her back slightly off the ground.
i was told useing force on pit bulls doesnt work for training them. so i used time out seems to work great make her put her nose in the corner < looks funny and sweet hard to stay mad at her when she does it> or make her lay on her bad and ignore her all day.

what am i doing wrong?

Dont allow her to follow you when you feed any more. Dogs communicate on a level that we dont always understand or hear. Sounds as if she is having some territorly issues. When she displays this behavour, put her in the crate (if you have one, if not get one). She has to learn that it is not acceptable, esp if you are discourageing her all the while.

She is testing her boundry. Good luck!

Yeah, it sounds like she views the home as her territory.

thank you for the responce. i have her a kenil. i rarly use it do to she is the only one of the dogs aloud inside. but i will get it dusted off and out for use. i not allowing her around the other dogs right now i want to make sure they are safe. i trust her around me and around people when not at the house but any female dog she has seem to grewn aggrssive toward. the male dogs she never seems to have a quarrel with. i have another person in town that loves pits like i do that i am haveing come over and help me work with her people skills at the house. i can take her to the park and people can pet and play with her np second we show up at the house hole nother ball game. i end up sending her to her corner to stay. i dont alow her to growl at my welcome guess. anyone i welcome i trying to teach her to welcome as well but she is not too trusting when it comes to people at my house in 2 years i had maybe 3 people over at the house. so something she not use to. and it doesnt help i am on edge with people at my house i dont help the sisuation at all. my house is my place of comfort. out side my house i am a bit jumpy in the house with me and my dog i can sleep a little and relax. when people come over i dont relax. could that be part of the problem?

Dogs sense what you are feeling.

thank you for the info. i read thru it and amd printing a copy to reread later as well. she goes to the vet for check up right after the brawl. and the vet gave her clean bill of health i take her to the vet on a normal basis. kinda sad i guess for most people but she is my best friend. but i will work on the demanding of attion. it is something she does when i sit down she pushes her head under my arm i pt her a second and go to work writing. i will put a stop to it. i know worse thing i can do is give in because a well behaved dog is a well treated dog. i want her to be happy. but i demand her to act right when we are in public it is key because of how people see the breed i dont want to be part of the small few that thrash the breed by our mis use or lack of knoledge. in public she does great at everything when out of the house she is sweet to everyone. lissens to everything said. i take her to the park fenced in for base ball and throw the ball for her and people are amazed at how she lissens to comands. i tell them of the loyal breed i own. she loves to learn new comands she knows quiet a few anyone know if there is a limit to what they learn or how long they remember with out useing it?

her first comand is freeze < laydown stop what she was doing>
then i teach her alot of other but allways keping freeze in coman use if she gets to excited or does something wrong. is that a good practic?

Absolutely that could be part of the problem. You need to be confident so she can be a confident companion (pet).

I am not a big advocate of dog parks. Here's a thread on why it's really not a good idea to bring your pit bull to dog parks:

http://www.pitbull-chat.com/showthread.php?t=3113

Start the NILIF, and see how you do with that. If the word "freeze" works, then keep using it.

Here is a thread on break sticks. You can give Boogieman a PM. He's a moderator on this forum and he sells break sticks:

And as Simms said, confidence is very important. Be confident, and your dog will follow

tanker: slightly off-topic: firefox, an internet browser, comes with a built-in spell checker that you might find handy.

also, really cool about the ball park - i wouldn't turn it into a dog park, either.

well out of the 6 published one " so think of joining the service" deals with people thinking of joining the service deals with the lies and strethces of the recruters and what he military gives and how to get started.
second was based off life in the mil. one on udjusting back from a war zone to "normal" mil. life and one is on becomeing a civvy again. the other 3 are the start of a fanicy books they are published not released yet. i got the last book i writeing now for that set before they release the first they want to read them all. i got alot of good feedback on my new style. so i hoping for them to do good not jsut for the doller reason but all so its something i enjoy and i want to do it right.
