Default Post spay depression
Not for Sadie, she feels wonderful, but mama is at her wits end with a crazed energetic maniac who is supposed to be "kept quiet" for 10 days. RIGHT, you might as well suggest that she quit breathing for 10 days. She was spayed Thursday so she has 5 days of pent up energy. And the cone - she keeps running into the backs of my legs because she HAS to be velcroed to mom's side always. I look like a victim of abuse. I don't think she is going to be able to be quiet for 10 days, last night she just jumped up and started this crazed zooming through the house - run, stop, spin around, jump, run some more. I had to more or less tackle her and just about sit on her to settle her down - she was just about vibrating and I think her little eyes were spinning around and around. I guess I should be glad she's so damned healthy, but she is on her mama's last nerve quite a bit the last 5 days. Oh well, this too shall pass

It will pass

When our Rottie girl was spayed, her cone was huge. Esperanza always follows me, and that cone contraption did not stop her from ... connecting with my legs. The sharp, hard plastic of the cone bruised my legs every which way. It HURT.

Can you play some low physical activity mind games with her? A mild version of hide and seek, perhaps?

You have my profound sympathy

Don't worry... she's just being "normal". When I had Zoey spayed, you would have never known it, she came home just as psycho crazy as she was before I took her. I tried to keep her "still" for a couple of days, but after that, I gave up, and she's a Lab mix, not nearly as "zoomie" as this breed!

I would crate her as much as you can for a couple of days, but in all honesty, she will probably do fine. Does she have internal stitches or ones that have to be removed? If she has the ones that have to be removed, I would try to keep her from licking them, and try to keep her a little calmer than normal for a few days, but with this breed, they seem to bounce back faster than any other breed, so I'm sure she will be fine.

For the record.... Cooper was a trip with his cone... I'm not sure which was funnier, watching him run into walls, or watching him run smack dab into the fence!

For you, I suggest a glass of wine.... or three!!

(Oh, I have moved your thread to the "Health" section, you will get more responses here).

I never kept the cone on my dogs when they were out of their crates.. never had a problem with them messing with their incisions.

I made sure to keep mine doped up, and to have a few stiff drinks.

If the stitches are internal perhaps the cone isnt needed? Our vet doesnt give you a cone for a sapy..she said if slayer messed with it we could come back and get one.

I didn't get one with Piper either.. vet told me that the females don't tend to mess with their incisions as much as the boys. Piper had internal stitches and glue on the outside, I never noticed her messing with it much, however it DID get infected because I couldn't keep her quiet! Nothing that a round of Cephalexin couldn't cure.

Sema didn't have a cone either. I also went nuts trying to keep her calm, and lost an ugly old couch in the process. After she tore that up on about day 6, I went back to walking her. She was fine and none of my good furniture was lost. Good luck to you!

Rita had dissolving stitches. I kept her leashed to me or in the crate wearing the cone because she did mess with her wound. I also walked her a lot. Just beause they aren't supposed to play and jump around doesn't mean they can't be walked until tired after a couple days to heal
