Anyone have an experience with a cat having F.I.P.? my cat was acting sick this weekend, unfortunately caring for cats was closed. took my boy to VSEC and they told us that they think our cat may have FIP. sounds really serious and terminal. i want to just vomit. anyone found any success with a cat being treated for this disease?

still waiting for results from the biopsy taken on sunday. i have some faith that the VSEC dr's could be wrong. after all, they were telling us that judging by xrays, our cat had a blockage in his intestines that required surgery....and they were wrong about that. unfortunately they did the operation. **** that place. if only dr guth had more weekend hours.

FIP is terminal in 99% of cats that get it. Plus it is tough to diagnose as the best test for it does not distinguish between the virus that will kill them versus exposure to a similar virus causing minimal to no symptoms. A young cat with fluid in the abdomen - FIP is a concern. But the disease can be non-specific.

FIP is difficult to diagnose. It's basically a cluster of symptoms, and a vet can make a best guess based on it. Cats can and do survive with intense and immediate care, but the chances are very slim as the previous poster noted. I am so sorry, and I wish your little guy all the luck in the world fighting this, if he indeed has FIP.

thank you all for your kind words, info, and hope. we are doing everything we can to keep his temperature down and food intake up until the final diagnosis is in. we should get it today. we took him to a homeopathic dr today. they have some interesting ideas, most of them sound like BS, but if they dont hurt him, then some may be worth a try. good news is that he gained some weight back and his temp has dropped from 104 to 101 since saturday. please say a prayer for my MAKO. thanks again.

Homeopathy will at best do absolutely nothing and at worst kill your cat through negligence.
Homeopathy is a pre-medicinal pseudoscience that believes that water can retain nondescript "vibrations" of an object, and these vibrations are stronger once diluted. They believe that if you make a homeopathic preparation...say of aspirin...that once you dilute the aspirin with water or alcohol to a concentration where it would take an entire swimming pool of water to find one molecule of acetylsalicylic acid then it is that much stronger. They also believe that "like cures like" so if you have bad allergies from ragweed pollen, they'll make a dilution of pollen to cure your allergies. It's been debunked by every legitimate large scale study and is contrary to the laws of physics and is a waste of your time and money. They are charlatans and taking advantage of you in your time of worry. Avoid them, I've had cats all my life and I don't want your love of your pet being used to scam your money away. |
