I use regular outdoor grass seed. The cats are fine with it.

One in awhile my cats get treated to a barley, etc. mixture I get that at Petsmart. Now I'm going to have to look and see if any of the pet stores in the area have it.

We've only found ready-grown grass at Monster Pets at Columbus & Snyder, or PetSmart down on Oregon (our preference).

Lately though we've found some of the little growing kit packs that work well, and they're a lot cheaper, so we try to stock up on those. Still, not sure where if any place in CC sells them either.

I know the floral shop in RTM (one nearest Ivonnie Brothers) had the little prefilled "just add water" containers to grow it in.

Also have seen it at the pet supply store on 20th above Walnut.

I never thought of that. What a concept. Thanks for the tip.

So what brand/type of seeds do you use, and how exactly do you grow it? How long does it last?

I buy a small bag of grass seed any brand. The kind I have now is for shade not sure if that makes a difference. Since moving to a condo in the kitchen sink I try to re use the same potting soil. Throw the old dead grass out, mix the dirt around, put in a bunch of seed, lots of water with a paper towel on top. In a day or two once the grass starts to sprout I take the paper towel off.

It lasts about 3 weeks or so. I use a nice pot we have on the bottom of a stand of other plants in our living room. It is sorta funny we get comments from visitors surprised we have grass growing indoors. It is at a good height for the cats to stand and eat it.

When we lived in a house with a garage and yard. Each time I would dump in the yard the dead grass and potting soil. Then put in fresh potting soil and grass seed. When we moved it seemed silly to be throwing potting soil in the trash regularly. Imagine at some point I'll put fresh potting soil in though. My husband makes fun of my whole process! The cats are a bit spoiled!

That sounds easy enough to me, thanks again for the tip!

And yeah, I know exactly what you mean about spoiled kitties... Lately I've been feeling guilty since we don't buy them the $5 already-grown grass from the pet store as often as we did when we weren't watching our pennies so much. Hehe.
