Default Breast cancer screening.
Not responsible for the reduction in breast cancer mortality...

"Thus, almost 60% of the Australian decline in breast cancer mortality since 1991 cannot be attributed to BreastScreen. Therefore, mammographic screening cannot account for most of the reductions in breast cancer mortality that have occurred in Australian women since 1991 and may have contributed to over-diagnosis. Most, if not all, of the reductions can be attributed to the adjuvant hormonal and chemotherapy, which Australian women have increasingly received since 1986."

Cervical cancer screening is the only one where total outcomes appear to be beneficial... it will be interesting to run the numbers on that as well when the effects of the HPV vaccine spread throughout the population...

Thus, almost 60% of the Australian decline in breast cancer mortality since 1991 cannot be attributed to BreastScreen. Does that mean that 40% can be attributed to breast scans?

I hate these uses of statistics. Who would expect a simple screening technique to make up over half of the reduction in mortality rates?
