I doubt that there is intelligent life elsewhere in the universe. There are many reasons but the most basic one is that intelligence is ultimately self destructive. As a species man has been on this planet for less than 3 million years & I doubt we will last for much more (yes, a very pessimistic view). There have been species of large animals on this planet that have lasted for tens & even hundreds of millions of years - none of them intelligent. (In this instance intelligence is the ability to alter the world around you instead of adapting to it)
There are species of smaller animals, bacteria... etc that have been around for billions of years & that can survive in the harshest of environments - these are the sorts of life that will probably abound in the universe. Allan |
