Yeah guy there are a few here that are very good at photography.

I won't name any names to hurt feelings but I should not take too long to figure it out if you stick around

Guy do you have any idea what kind of Heron this might be?

This bird was off quite a ways so even with a zoom this was the best I got

AA I downloaded that pic and zoomed in on the head. Even doing that it's very difficult because it becomes quite fuzzy. From what I can see it really looks like a Green Heron to me... but... when I look at the body and gray markings it looks like a Great Blue Heron. If it were my shot I would lean more to the Green Heron side of the fence.

It had amazingly blue colors. The only way it could be a Great Blue would be if it was a young one as it was not big enough. From what research I could find the flight pattern does not seem to fit a Green Heron. Maybe it is some type of Egret

What ever it is it sure is skitterish. I came across this pond by accident that is not far from my house. It is surrounded by brush so there are few clear places to get a view. This bird or a mate had been there a couple of times but the second I came to this tiny clearing they would fly off. Even though it was probably 75 yards away and I was still not very visible.

We do have a Great Blue rookery that is about 4 miles away and one day a great blue was at the pond but it was scared off also.

GBH's are amazingly elusive birds and can be quite hard to get close to. Over the years I have been able to get a few good ones but the one I want always evades me. I need to get me one flying towards me but all I ever get is a butt shot. Maybe I gotta get me a GBH suit of some sort.

You should take a drive out to the rookery. I don't know what area of the US you live in but they have to be fixin' up their nests and about ready to breed. You should be able to get a few good shots.

Besides the pic I posted before this is one of my fav's. GBH's remind me of Alfred Hitchcock.

Here's a nesting pair taken from a gazillion miles away. I cropped the dickens out of it.

Those are great pics

The rookery here is in the middle of developed neighborhoods with a swampy area that they could not develop. There are some efforts being taken by developers to get approval to make changes so the property can be built on. Lots of people fighting it.

It is really tough to get close. Farther away than the earlier picture posted by a little bit. I might make a better effort this year. Last year from the outside of the woods I took these pics. And I live in SE Michigan.

This first pic shows 3 of the nests. I could see something moving but thru my camera was not sure what it was and only was sure once I put the pics on the computer. I never could get a pic of them in the air but I got impatient after about an hour. I think people thought I was stalking a business.
