![]() Bones strength actually comes from it's flexibility more than density, because 90% of bone is living tissue, and soft. So it absorbs impact, as opposing to resisting it with brute strength. Babies are prime examples of this, I once heard a story of a baby who got his/her head run over by a tractor, but a combination of the soft mud and extra flexy form of baby bones saved his/her life. Of course, that too may be an urban myth. But I don't think the mythbusters will even be allowed to test that one ![]() |

You should see this program on Discovery called The Human Body - The Ultimate Machine.
It covers all aspects, but there's a specific episode called Strength which you might be interested. It's all about the muscles, tendons, cartiledge etc. And it was just really interesting. I'll see if I can find a clip of it. |
