Default $14.99 win8 update problem
I purchased a new HP computer yesterday and tried to register with Microsoft for the win8 upgrade.
No matter how quickly I type in the info, I keep getting referred to an error that says I took too long and the process timed out.

Anyone else having this issue?

oh but don't you dare talk bad about Microsoft.. No No (sarcasm)
I haven't run into it but I'm not surprised at all but don't take me for another brand or type guy I'm as old schoolers would say it "IBM all the way."

Are you using internet explorer?...Sometime MS insists on IE for some functions.
Another thing you could try if you are using ie
Is to go into settings for ie ...browser history..and uncheck...where is says "automatically check for newer versions of stored web pages"....select never
Be sure the other settings allow cookies etc.
After you get registered then you could then change settings back

Just call it in if you can't get it to work online.

I followed a link at the upgrade site and left a message that I was being timed out.
I got an email response that the site was being updated and if I had troubles tomorrow, to use a given phone number to register.
So...tomorrow I'll try again, one way or another.

@ The Man....I consider IE a breach of security

Well.....crap

Same problem this morning......the registration web page timed out......

So I called the number given and a tech walked me through the registration process again from the web link......of course it failed....

So the tech decided to enter my info from his side of the phone......and it timed out....LOL!

My new instructions are to turn my computer off for an hour and try again....

If that doesn't work, try again in 24 hours

That is just so sad.....

Probably.

I've been offline for several hours and thought I'd give it another try.

Fail ---->

So I fired up another computer I use online.....same problem, error pops up.....timed out.
I'd be pissed if I desperately wanted win 8 on my new computer, but as the eula on this deal allows it installed even on older XP systems ( not necessarily the new computer ) I thought I'd instal it on my Acer.

This must be an omen

Has anyone else tried to register for this deal?

I found the perfect work-around to register.......I booted to a live Linux CD ( Knoppix ) and registered.
It's odd that the Microsoft tech couldn't register me......maybe he ought to be booting into Knoppix, too

I got an email questionnaire yesterday from Microsoft asking me how pleased I was with my experience with the Microsoft Store and my attempt at registering for the $14.99 win 8 upgrade.
