Default Unwanted Software
I have this pop-up that has attached itself to the web book. I went to remove the program from control panel and all it does is bring up the activation window. It comes up everytime the web book is booted up and all the icons disappear. How the heck do you get rid of this? All it says is Personal Secutiry and has a blue shield. There is no place to get any company information..

Not if it is already infected. Most likely this will have wrecked your AV program and it will block install of a new one. I do this everyday and usually the only way I can remove this kind of program is to remove your HDD attach it to a clean computer and scan via the uninfected computer. Having this program on your computer is like having a double agent. It is secretly upsetting your attempts to clean the system. You can't use your compromised system to clean it. You have to use a known trusted clean computer.

Also many versions of this trap have rootkits that are separate and hide in the background recording what websites you visit (like online shopping sites or your bank) hoping to record finical data. So even if you remove the obvious signs of the program the backdoor is still open and the bad guys have pwnd your computer.

POS malware, I cannot even edit my registry, nothing!! Grrr!! Looks like the boss is gonna have to figure out what to do. This web book was only about 2-300. Is it worth it to fix? My opinion is a regular lap top and get the AV at the time of set up..

Of course it is. You have the OS disks no? Wipe and reinstall and then install a good AV program, several good free options exist.

It is a web book. There are no OS discs. There are no drives. Any downloads have to be done online and then I transfer to a jump drive then install.

Then you are not going to be able to fix this without someone that has an external cd-rom drive.

Turn off your computer and make sure it powers down
Drop it in a 43-foot hole in the ground
Bury it completely, rocks and boulders should be fine
Then burn all the clothes you may have worn any time you were alive.

And let that be a lesson. Never buy a netbook without an external CD-Rom to go with it. Windows at some point WILL have to be reinstalled. It's too easy to frak up.
