It probably just pings a an advertising server.
Similar to the sponsor buttons at the top of MOF.

I didn't notice any difference when adding it to the url. Shoot, add &rtf=12 to any url on mof... watch, it won't do anything! It's probably a spoof.

All "&fmt=18" does is let you watch a higher quality version if someone uploaded one. If there isn't a higher quality version available, it will just default back to the original video. Definetly not a hack.
