On the other hand, there is very little drama going on in any other court. Venus down 1-6 is the story right now.
Unless you are watching the riveting Llodra-Fognini match

I'm one of the people who took Youzhny in the sp. Considering the fact that Young's won-loss record for the year coming into Wimbledon was 2-14, it's hard to criticize someone for picking him to lose to a seeded player in the first round who has had some success at Wimbledon in the past.
Wasn't exactly criticizing (just said I was surprised), and my sp record is not exactly, um, good.

Venus is out .
I woke up right after the first set and was like, "Venus is losing? Well, this is obviously a dream.." fell back asleep for a few minutes, then realised it wasn't a dream when I woke up again and saw that she was down in the second set too

She looked tired and out of sorts out there.

meh.

The Wimbledon website is awful. Was it like this last year, with its small font size and scroll bars?

The TAT community holds its breath as Pironkova loses the first set!

This is my fault. I chose Vesnina in Can't Win Jack. That automatically gives a player a win. Sorry.

Yeah...

So I know ESPN wants to pull the plug on her career right now, but will we see VW on the tennis court after the Olympics?

I'm trying to prepare myself for that moment

I thought Venus might fall over on her walk back to the locker room. Felt so badly for her.

Venus offering up very little in her presser, saying outright she does not want to talk about her health.

Edited to add: She opens up more as the presser goes on.

Twitter is giving me conflicting reports of the Venus-Vesnina match. There are lots of mentions of Venus's auto-immune disease, but then also tweets saying that a) she played quite well (18 winners, 13 errors) and b) Vesnina played VERY well. I'm not clear whether health was a factor in the result?

It's probably a combination of factors.

Sigh... I'll always fondly think of Venus as synonymous with Wimbledon, even if she's basically finished.
