Womens final at the 2012 French Open features a resurgent Maria Sharapova versus upstart Sara Errani.
Sharapova goes into the match as the newly minted (come Monday) WTA #1, and looks for the chance to become only the tenth woman in tennis history to hold a career Slam. Throughout this Slam, the movement of the former "cow on ice" has been solid, and her serve has been steady. Can she keep nailing those solid groundies and not give Errani a chance to get into the match? Errani started the tournament as #24 in the rankings, but came in strong, with a QF appearance at this year's Australian, and 3 titles in 2012. "Sarita" comes into her first Slam final after having scored her first wins against top 10 players (prior to the French, she was 0-28 against the Top 10). Career H2H - we got nothing to go on. Surprisingly, for two 25 year old veterans of the Tour, they have never played each other in a WTA event. |

Sara Errani: Meet Martin Verkerk, Mariano Puerta, Alberto Berasategui and Michael Pernfors. You have a whole lot more in common than you can think off. Alternate Post: I do expect Sharapova to win. But an upset wouldn't shock me. |
