Why do they have Tommy Haas listed as GER instead of USA? Did they not hear of his US citizenship?

He switched back to playing for GER in 2011.

Has anyone heard what's happened with Florian Mayer? He seems to have been replaced by Rik de Voest in the draw on the AO site.

He withdrew because of a hip strain injury.

Lot of people are betting against this girl (Paula Ormachea, 19 ARG). Maybe they are right, but then again she qualified despite some solid opposition. I would be afraid...

By the way why did we omit Loser's lounge this year? I thought it was a fun tradition... My previous post would belong there.

It's there!
...

TENNIS JUST STARTED YOU GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Watson has won the first two points against Azarenka!

I'm watching online on ESPN3. They had the whole crew of commentators make bold predictions.

Gilbert: Andy Murray will win TWO slams and end the year at #1, thanks to Lendl.

Evert: Venus and Sharapova will win slams.

P Mac: No man will win two slams this year. Four different winners. He is also picking Azarenka to win the AO.

Shriver: BIG year for Federer. One or two slams.

Cahill: No American man or woman will win a slam this year.

MJ Fernandez: Murray wins a slam.

There were a few more that I forget.

I'm supposed to be working, but I couldn't resist looking at the ESPN predictions grid:

http://espn.go.com/sports/tennis/picks/_/tournament/8

I think I'm most boggled at two people pegging Gasquet as a sleeper. But perhaps I'm taking his pathetic show subpar performance at Sydney too much to heart.

I think it's funny that some have the defending champion as a sleeper.

And no one has Kim or Serena as "early exits," despite their health issues and ages.

Bethanie Mattek is really going for broke. I looked at this and thought Radwanska was a really bad matchup for her but she's started wonderfully.

She sure has! S & V, big serving and coming in - she always seems tricky when she is on.

She just got broken serving for the set, hopefully that doesn't spell trouble for her

She's trying real hard to fight off the nerves.

She couldn't. Terrible shot to get broken back again.

Heather! I was rooting for Vika but still wanted Watson to have a better showing than this.

Mattek-Sands has really lost the plot. A Rad is up 5-1 in the tiebreaker.

M-S has a normal outfit but dyed some purple in her hair.

I'm calling this match Burly vs Surly.

Bethanie's drop shot is the MVP of this first set.

Yeah, people like Radwanska and Benesova have this strange thing going on. Extremely serious on court but then really fun off.
