Australian Open 2012 Play-off – daily update

The women’s semifinal line-up of the Australian Open 2012 Play-off was completed this afternoon, with Bojana Bobusic (South Perth, WA) and Olivia Rogowska (St Kilda, Vic) joining Ashleigh Barty (Springfield, Qld) and Arina Rodionova in the last four at Melbourne Park.
Barty had little trouble progressing to the knockout stage after taking out eighth seed Emelyn Starr (Timbumburi, NSW) 6-3 6-2. A large crowd looked on as the 15-year-old Junior Wimbledon champion dictated much of the play and surged into the semis in impressive style. Although top seed Casey Dellacqua enjoyed a convincing win today, her day one loss to Barty rules her out of the semis. Read more on the match here.

Bobusic became the third semifinalist to progress after a gruelling battle on Court 5 against Viktorija Rajicic (Delahey, Vic), the result determining the final order of a delicately placed Group D.

With all four players in the group – Bobusic, Rajicic, Sally Peers (Glen Waverley, Vic) and Storm Sanders (Safety Bay, WA) – each winning and losing a match, the tension was high as the players fought to keep their hopes in the event alive. Peers defeated Sanders 6-1 6-2 and needed a Rajicic victory to qualify. She very nearly got her wish when Rajicic went ahead 5-3 in the final set however Bojana Bobusic’s experience paid off in the closing stages, dominating the tiebreak to record a 4-6 6-3 7-6(2) win over Rajicic. Read more on the match here.

The final pivotal clash today was between third seed Isabella Holland (St Lucia, Qld) and sixth seed Arina Rodionova. Both players cruised through their opening two matches, however Rodionova prevailed this afternoon, fighting back after dropping the second set to win 6-3 0-6 6-4.

Didn't Rogowska win this once or maybe lose the final to Dellacqua once? I seem to remember her popping up.

Sorry I was wrong about the time -- Ashleigh has just won the first set 7-6. The live stream is working but I have too much buffering to stick with it -- I am watching the Live Scoreboard instead.

Only saw the last 4 games but Barty was very impressive. Plus she didn't drop a set all week.
