With Henin's retirement, this becomes a tiny bit easier for the US. I thought I read somewhere this morning that Kim is also questionable. In which case the US's doubles strength could be the deciding factor.

Canada could have a chance here. Only one Serb above the top 400 (more or less). Not that Canada has any top 100 (okay, top 85) players, either. Wozniak is just coming back from a four-month injury layoff, and was terrible (hopefully just due to effect of the injury) for quite a while before that. Marino-Jovanovski is the critical matchup here.

I kind of read this as "Shamil's list of players who need my psychological expertise right now" rather than "the best Russian team."

A (winning) week with Shama at Fed/Davis Cup always seems to perk up players for a couple weeks' worth of good results

Wow. And we complain about the U.S. education system?

I wonder if she has finally stopped worshiping Steffi...

No Agnieszka? She has not pulled out of the AO yet, but I'm guessing that if her name is not here, the announcement on the aussie has to be imminent.

The Belgian team confirmed yesterday that Kim and Justine will be on the squad that faces the US in February. Yanina and Kirsten Flipkens will also be on the team.
