Default Caro, dad terminate coaching relationship
http://tennis.com/articles/templates...3757&zoneid=25

World No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki and her father, Piotr, have ended their coaching relationship, Ekstra Bladet reports. The father and daughter apparently discussed her moving in another direction after Dominika Cibulkova upset Wozniacki at Wimbledon. The Wozniackis have hired a new private coach to travel with Caroline, but he/she has yet to come on board, so Piotr went with Caroline to Toronto and Cincinnati.

Wozniacki fell in the opening round of both tournament, to Roberta Vinci in Toronto and to Christina McHale in Cincinnati. Piotr was heard yelling at the slumping Caroline when he came on court during her loss to McHale.

The identity of the new coach is so far unknown but is said to be a former touring pro. Wozniacki has also worked with adidas Player Development coach Sven Groenefeld. Piotr Wozniacki, a former soccer player in Denmark, is said to have encouraged his daughter to try someone else out. Wozniacki, who has yet to win a Grad Slam, has been criticized for playing too defensively.

"We've heard from morning to night how Caroline should play," Piotr told the newspaper. "So now she tries something else. It is intended that she should be a very aggressive player. But as you can see, she cannot win matches right now, because she does not know how she should play. But whatever, I'm Caroline's father, and I will always support her."

She is scheduled to play in New Haven next week.

I have absolutely nothing to base it on, but anyone else think there's more to this story? She's getting tired of her dad yelling at her? New boyfriend, time to come out from under the parent's wings? Factor in two first round losses at major events and the pressure of the questioning of your ranking.

And it occurred at Wimbledon, but there was no announcement, and they won't name who the new coach is?

Move needed to be done by Wozniacki, who have high expectations, especially an embarrassing loss to McHale.

When was the story about them talking with Navs - was that at Wimbledon time? I remember Piotr making a comment about what it would cost to bring her on board.

Rory the Homewrecker.
I watched the match replay last night before I went to bed and you could just see tension between the father and the boyfriend.

I can't say I'm really all that surprised after the way he berated her yesterday. I think it's a combination of Caro wanting to try something new, anything at this point, and seeing if that gets her to that next level. I do think she's beginning to crack to the whole "being number one without a major" though. One can only handle it for so long and she's been dealing with it for nearly a year.

The thing is I can't really see this change helping her more in terms of her game. I can't see her changing her swings to create more power and having her move up in the court. She'll definitely try, and it may work in some matches but her fall back will always be to play defensive. And realistically, that's what's won her so many matches. She's really only lost matches to players who have been able to move just as well and rally with her and those who can hit through her. Vinci last week was just too much slice and dice and McHale could hit winners while moving extremely well.

I guess either way we'll be able to point to this as a turning point.

I don't know much about Rory, but it wouldn't be a stretch to think he suggested this to her. Being a pro athelete, she might be inclined to trust his opinion.

I'd say if he has any sense he will stay a mile away from interfering between his girlfriend and her dad.

this isn't recent, and, having seeing Piotr outside of matches, not at all accurate. But it's hilarious still

WELL, at least we can always be comforted with the knowledge that, regardless of any coach/life changes- one thing we can always count on: Caroline will always remain dull.

't Would probably be good for her, but if this is the "mutual" decision it would appear to be, i'm going to wait and see how the new coach gets along with Piotr breathing down his/her neck.

It was in April. But Martina said it wasn't happenning.

Word on the street is that Caro's gonna snatch Na's coach, Mortensen.

As posted on Cronin's Twitter:
Matt Cronin
To clarify: some Danish reports have it coach Mortenson may leave Li for Caro. What I said was Li's camp hasnt heard about any move yet

There's not meat to this rumor yet though the Chinese fans on wtaworld are saying that Mortenson is only contracted with Na until the end of the US Open. And a couple of days ago there was a rumor going around that Caro's already picked her new coach but said coach is "unable to travel with her yet" which gave of the impression that said coach was already coaching another player.

WTATour and coaches is like high school dating.

Matt's jumping the gun on this, I think.

Caro refused to talk about the issue flat out and gave BS answers to all mildly related questions.

Actually, today, she gave BS answers to ALL questions.

I'm finding Matt's apparent desperation to know to be fairly amusing. So maybe Caroline should continue the omerta for some more days.

She totally gave me this, "I know I'm BSing you, you know I'm BSing you, and they know I'm BSing, but you can't do anything about it" look. Not so much anger as an unpleasant kind of amusement

That was funny.

I totally respect her decision. I was just kind of unhappy with the whole presser.
