I'm pretty sure if King/Shvedova win in Osaka they'll clinch the last spot anyway.

Wow this race is tightening up even more now that King/Shvedova lost the finals in Osaka. They are now 41 points from clinching the 4th spot and according to Vania's twitter, she is going to Moscow just to play dubs so that they can get the last spot because of Vikkiri playing here.

At first I thought Bertens-Schoofs was the illness.

Hmmm. Just noticed this. Why would Pavlyuchenkova, Kirilenko and Makarova be playing here, when there is a more important tournament being played this same week in their hometown/place of residence? Some sort of (wo-)mandate from the WTA?

I think Pavlyuchenkova actually stated it was because the field is weaker. Kirilenko had to follow Azarenka for doubles, I'm guessing, but got screwed over.

Youzhny decided to play elsewhere, too.

Kremlin Cup is actually struggling with funding the last couple of years, so I don´t believe they give out appearance fees to most Russians
