So many fun matchups to choose from at the start of this tennis day. I ultimately decided on the battle of the Jelenas.

It's raining pretty hard here. I THINK this particular storm is going to barely miss New York. I sure hope so.

Okay, I coulda sworn when I last looked Kanepi and Stepanek were both up a break in their sets. Can't leave these unattended for even a minute.

Monaco is looking pretty strong. And Radek is not being able to push him anywhere. Still too early, but it does not look good for the Stepanek pickers.

Got to see JJ serve it out. Now watching JCF vs Monfils. High quality start.

Center baseline, 3rd row @ chair ump's left.

Is it just my perception or is there an extremely high number of retirements and withdrawals this year?

Ten retirements as of yesterday, and with Stepanek today I believe that ties the record for most retirements in one Slam.

Question about Ashe:

Camera panned over the crowd and we saw a sign over an exit that said "Re-entry is not guaranteed." My son asked what that meant. And I have no idea. Anyone?

Jie Zheng really is an ominous floater. Still love that backhand, too. This is the first time I've seen Petkovic play. Hoping to see that famous dance..

I feel so sorry for Mona Barthel. She either has some kind of a skin condition or very severe acne. Not just on her face but also her shoulders and chest. I had really bad acne as a teen, so I know what that's like.

OOOOOOH! I just swtiched so I can look for you. Serena/Krajicek be damned!

Explain to your son that nelslus is getting a little older and sometimes his body is just not up to taking the same beatings it's used to. Because he has SO many inquiries, he has to put signs up in odd places.

(Winston, in seriousness, I think it just means sometimes the stadium fills up and you can't save your seat. It's not like having a ticket to a movie theater where you know you can go to the bathroom and come back.)

In four days!

I remember when a retirement was a big surprise.

But isn't Ashe all reserved seating?

I have no clue. I was only thinking of general seating stadiums. If it was all reserved seating, the sign wouldn't make any sense.

They may completely close and lock the gates late in the day session and night sessions so no one else can get in. For example, if you have an Ashe day session ticket and it runs late and then the night crowd starts to assemble outside, you MAY have a difficult time getting back in, even though they usually have folks stationed at the sides to let ticket holders back in.

I also would imagine that they would not allow anyone back in if, for example, there was some kind of a security scare.
