Thanks for posting that, Dry.
So sad to see her withddraw, but health comes first; wish her the best.
Hopefully they have the diagnosis correct this time. It sounds like this could have been what was wrong all along instead of anemia.
This was the first thing I thought of when Ti said it could take several years to get a proper diagnosis. It could have totally been misdiagnosed all those years as Anemia.

They should have been looking for the cause of the anemia all along. Unless she had pernicious anemia (which is rare), there is generally an underlying condition causing the anemia. Anemia by itself is not (should not be) a diagnosis, especially in a young, supposedly healthy person/athlete.

Terrible news. I really hope Venus can come back from this and go out on her terms but mostly want her to lead a happy and healthy life after tennis.

Wow. That is eye-opening. I'm really glad she spoke to what precisely triggered yesterday's decision. Yes, it would be hard to play a match when it hurts to lift your arms.

I just wish I could share her optimism about returning to the sport. I hope she can. But first, I just want her to feel better.

Surprisingly candid interview from Venus...not having any feeling in her hands would explain so much of her weird play the last few years.

I think we all knew SOMETHING was up with her, we (and she too) just didn't know what that something was.

Thanks for posting, omess. As per usual, you just can't fault her attitude.

It is a shame that her US Open had to end like this, but hopefully finally knowing what's wrong will help her to feel better soon.

I'm curious if the steroids used for most autoimmune diseases are on the performance enhancing drugs list and if so, does that mean you couldn't compete regardless of your diagnosis. anyone know?

They are not. Anabolic steroids are not used for this disorder.

Really beautiful interview. Thanks, omess!
I agree...thanks! I feel better after seeing this interview. I hope Venus comes back when she's healthy!

Speaking on the anemia front, in the interview she mentioned about not getting enough air. Does anyone remember the USO semi in 07 against Henin? They played like a 40 shot rally in which Venus won, and then she kinda fell apart afterwards, I remember while watching that I was thinking of her diagnosis of anemia then. After all this time, hopefully they have it right!

Default Venus Williams Diagnosed with Sjogrens Syndrome
I posted this link in the Day 3 thread, but it'll probably get buried soon.

In case anyone would like to read more about it, here's a good link.

Thanks Dry. It takes up to seven years to diagnose this disease. Important that she take care of herself.
