I haven't seen a qualie draw for the WTA but Tennis Canada announced the following:

For the women in Toronto, Gabriela Dabrowski (Ottawa), Heidi El-Tabakh (Toronto), Sharon Fichman (Toronto) and Marie-Eve Pelletier (Repentigny, Quebec) will take their crack at making it to the big show. One additional wildcard will be determined via a pre-qualifying tournament involving Canadians Dominique Harmath, Kimberly-Ann Surin, Brittany Wowchuk and Carol Zhao, with the final female entrant to be confirmed at a later date.

12 wild cards for a 56-woman draw? That seems crazy high. Is that standard for the WTA tour?

Also, I read somewhere (possibly it was inaccurate) that Marino had a direct entry. Have their been some withdrawls (the tournament website shows her as the third alternate)?

Dulgheru's out, Martini - that put Marino into the main draw directly.

And there are only three main draw WCs - they went to Eugenie Bouchard, Stephanie Dubois and Aleksandra Wozniak

Thanks, Moose. The site still shows Marino as having been the third alternate, behind Morita and AMG. So have they also gotten in also, or was there some fiddling with the priority list there?

And I mis-typed above. It was twelve qualifying spots that I was asking about. Even the majors only have sixteen, I believe, in a 128-woman draw (and only 12 on the men's side).

They were 3 WC and 2 top 20 WC on the official list. The top 20 WC were not used so the spots went to first 2 alternates Morita and Medina.

As of the qualifying, it depends of the main draw size and the qualifying draw size

Thanks again. But I was correct, that this is a (ridiculously) high number of qualifiers. 12/56 = > 20% is a qualifier. Anc according to your chart, a 56-player draw could have 4, 8 or 12 qualifiers, and there could be either two or three rounds of qualifying. I don't see why there should be so much variation.

I think it's the other way around--16 qualifiers on the men's side, and 12 on the women's.

Yes except at the US Open where they have both 16 qualifiers.

Unconfirmed reports by people on site in DC that Malisse has withdrawn. Next in would be Stakhovsky.

The ATP SE will be contested between Donald Young and Radek Stepanek. If they both win tonight Stepanek, who has the higher ranking, would get it.
