Bryan Brothers won't be defending their Farmers Classic title. They're skipping it to rest. W/ Querrey out too, rather big blow to tourney

After winning Wimbledon, playing Davis Cup and World Team Tennis for the last 2 weeks, I can understand the rest as the Bryans have entered Washington. In my opinion, Bryans should not have played WTT and got ready for the USO HC swing starting in Los Angeles.

Agree that would have been too much WTT-LA-DC-TO-Cinci

I sort of agree with the two of you, but honestly, with no-ad scoring, when does a doubles match take longer than 90-minutes nowadays? I think they could have handled four 90-min matches next week if they really wanted to.

I'm curious to see if the tournament is able to attract another big-name last second wild card like they did with Murray last year after Djokovic withdrew. Of all the US Open series events, this one would seem to be the one most likely to struggle attracting a top field due to the distance between it and the others.

I think that's more of the issue than match exhaustion. Travel is a big thing that's easy to forget about. I wouldn't want to go from East coast to West, then back to East within 2 weeks.

Nishikori out, per his Twitter (@keinishikori): "Good morning. Decided not to push the shoulder and skip LA. I have to really let the shoulder be pain free. The goal now is Washington."

I heard Gulbis is practicing in LA while Canas watches him closely ... as if Guillermo is his coach or such.

Anyone hear that they were going to try that out? It was news to me.

They have been working together for 2-3 months now but I am not sure if Canas is officially the coach .
