Polansky was up 5-2 in the second-set tiebreak against Schoorel, and is now down a break in the third. Damn.

Also, Ryan Harrison has split his first two sets, which both went to tiebreaks.

Who WILL qualify:
[1] Nuria Llagostera Vives: the queen of GS qualifying will retain her throne
Marina Erakovic: she's been playing well and is just about the toughest draw someone could've gotten
[3] Aranxta Rus: Kimmie slayer should make it through this relatively weak section
Anna-Lena Groenfeld: I'm going to pick the upset in this section because her top seed seems allergic to the green stuff and her other seed, Namigata, has become a walking bye this season
[5] Tamarine Tanasugarn: should've gotten a WC but should only face real trouble in her second round here
[6] Edina Gallovits-Hall: definitely the weakest of the sections but she did take a set off Jie today
Casey Dellacqua: she seems to be in good form since her comeback
Ekaterina Ivanova: if she can find her serve on the grass her seeds aren't too dangerous
Kristyna Pliskova: last year's Wimbledon girls' champ's game is tailor-made for grass
Michaella Krajicek: tough section with a lot of top performers on the challenger level but it's hard to pick against a past quarterfinalist
Alexa Glatch: her big serve should help her in a section full of players that would probably rather every tournament be on clay
[12] Sloane Stephens: her serve (when it's on) and forehand should have her sailing through her first 2 matches but a possible encounter with Woz the lesser is looming

Who I WANT to qualify:
[1] Nuria Llagostera Vives
Yuliya Beygelzimer
[16] Yvonne Meusburger
Anna-Lena Groenfeld
[5] Tamarine Tanasugarn
[15] Lesia Tsurenko
Heidi El Tabakh
[17] Misaki Doi
[9] Eva Birnerova
[24] Valeria Savinykh
Galina Voskoboeva
Aleksandra Wozniak

LLAGOSTERA VIVES, Nuria ESP [1] - I think her R1 opponent, Malek, will be her toughest challenger.

ERAKOVIC, Marina NZL - Glad to see she's back in some good form.

RUS, Arantxa NED [3] - Not a particularly difficult section.

FALCONI, Irina USA [4] - I'm gonna go this way, and I think the winner of her and ALG will be the qualifier.

TANASUGARN, Tamarine THA [5] - Can't really pick against this. No WC?

TSURENKO, Lesia UKR [15] - Has two easy matches and should be ready against EGH.

EL TABAKH, Heidi CAN - If she gets by Dellacqua in R1. And Dubois in R2. I think it's her time.

VOEGELE, Stefanie SUI - CSN and "**** it" loom in this section

KARATANTCHEVA, Sesil KAZ - Every time I don't pick her, she succeeds. Hoping that by choosing her, it will allow Pliskova to qualify.

BARTHEL, Mona GER - I'm going to go with the one riding a semifinal wave into the tournament.

VOSKOBOEVA, Galina KAZ - But I really hope Alexa Glatch comes through here.

WOZNIAK, Aleksandra CAN - Or Sloane Stephens.

I feel like this is going to go very badly for me/the 12 ladies I picked.

CHANG, Kai-Chen TPE [19]: Because NLV will definitely not win 3 matches on grass.
ERAKOVIC, Marina NZL: Had a decent run in Birmingham.
RUS, Arantxa NED [3]: Had to qualify in her own country at 's-Hertogenbosch? Maybe she lost in the first round so she could make it over to Hurlingham.
GROENEFELD, Anna-Lena GER: For old times' sake.
TANASUGARN, Tamarine THA [5]: Why can't you use that unused wild card up on Tammy T, AELTC?
GALLOVITS-HALL, Edina ROU [6]: No one in this section stood out, so I took the seed.
DELLACQUA, Casey AUS: It's been a long road back from injury.
VOEGELE, Stefanie SUI: I don't know why I pick her, but I always seem to...
KARATANTCHEVA, Sesil KAZ: Can she play without the 'roids? I don't know.
KRAJICEK, Michaella NED: Although her results haven't been great, grass should be her chance to shine.
VORACOVA, Renata CZE [11]: I dunno, she's seeded?
WOZNIAK, Aleksandra CAN: Looked good at Roland Garros until she choked away the match against Wozniacki. Absolutely loaded section.

How frustrating would it be to be Sergei Bubka Jr? Your father is arguably the greatest living athlete in your country, your girlfriend (Azarenka) is Top 5 in the world in your sport, and you can't make it into main draws or the Top 150

He may suffer from the Gulbis disease. Which is to say, while he has the passion and desire for the sport, he lacks the drive that sometimes comes from being born into a very comfortable life. Just speculating since I know nothing about him.

Caroline Garcia was thumped 61 60 by Alexa Glatch.

Rus lost to 33 year old Lindsay Lee-Waters, who hasn't played a main draw in a Slam since the '06 US Open Doubles. Her high rank for singles = 33 (on 1 April 1996). Seems she has a couple of children.

According to wiki she lost an ITF final to Kournikova in 1996. Yeah, and they say Anna never won anything!

For those of us who did "qualifying predictions"...

Going into the last day of qualifying, I have a possibility of having correctly predicted 9 of the 16 for the men, and 7 of the 12 ladies. Ben's totals are 6 and 5, Tog's are 5 and 4.

We all predicted: Tomic, Cipolla, Harrison - Erakovic, Tanasugarn

Head-to-heads:

Roger-Vasselin (beau) vs. Gicquel (Tog, Ben)
Lacko (beau) vs. Soeda (Tog, Ben)

Voskoboeva (beau) vs. Glatch (Ben)

Different picks:

Guccione, Zopp, Chiudinelli (beau); Fischer (Ben)

Chang (Tog); Falconi, Tsurenko (beau); Ivanova, Pliskova (Ben)

Shows how awful I am at predictions, especially those involving people I hardly know anything about.

I did much better than I thought I would....but the fact that one of my picks lost 3 & 0 in the first round has sobered me

And on the flip side, to this point, I have done a MUCH better job with these scrubs than I ever do with the "normals".

Who could have guessed?

Alcohol is your friend.

I could have guessed this
