It's her hometown event so I can't bash her too hard. Kvitova did the same thing in a challenger event so Caro isn't alone. But still...playing on grass would probably be smart but I can't see her winning Wimbledon either way.

Playing every week isn't. She needs to take breaks. I'm just very, very tired of "No. 1" players not being able to achieve when it means the most- and then burning out. How many top players have to fail when it's time for the Slams before the next crop of future top players get this?

Agreed. Though this is odd scheduling, I think this tournament was later in the summer last year which made more sense (though I think it would be better served if it was held in the February or October regions of the calendar).

And with Kvitova, at least that Prague challenger was on clay. Playing on indoor hard between the French and Wimbledon is odd, especially for someone ranked as high as Caro.

I'm fairly certain her family's sport agency (Nordic Sports Group) owns the tournament. That would explain it, I think.

I can completely understand why the Woz is playing here, but I cannot understand why Bethanie Mattek isn't playing on grass this week.

Is this at the same point level as Birmingham? Maybe she wanted to assure a seeding at Wimbledon and thought this was a better draw in which to do damage?

Pretty sure its the same point level, the prize money is the same. Birmingham is a larger and more difficult draw, but the top seeds there are:
1) Kanepi
2) Ivanovic
3) Peng
4) Hantuchova

Plus the experience and feel of grass before Wimbledon. Especially with her serve, she could do damage there. She has had success on grass before, so I just don't understand it. But I know she will do what she thinks is best for her, so I just wish her good luck!

Yeah, I'm pretty puzzled by it too and was grasping at straws. She's not enough of a draw to earn an appearance fee, is she?

Maybe in Tucson, I'm thinking not in Copenhagen!

Michaella Krajicek over Melanie O. I forgot Michaella was even still playing. She was a rising star a few years back. What on earth happened to her?

Wow, she's only 22, too. I feel like I've been hearing about her for about 6 years. Probably because of her brother.
