Wow, Patty used to be a LOT heavier. I had no idea.

OJ diet does wonders, clearly.

Sad to see her go. Along with Hingis and Federer they pretty much put Swiss on the map and made the country known for things other than army knives and cheese.

She will be missed!

I'm sure this had happened 3-4 other times...I was hearing about it so much I actually dreamed about it one night!

Default Patty Schnyder retires
Hope this isn't really true...

Patty Schnyder ends her career after the match against Sorana Cirstea.

I've put a question mark on the thread title, because, as people were able to narrow it down, the announcement came from Barbara Schett on Eurosport, but Patty told the French press "nothing to say" on this

She's still in the doubles draw, for what it's worth.

Does anybody in sports or politics ever keep a lid on something until they actually make the announcement itself?

It's done - she retires immediately.

Will miss her. White mile/wacky jokes aside, she was tons of fun to watch

I wonder if Conchita Martinez will send flowers?

I'll miss her, too. I always loved the junk players.

Boo. I was hoping she'd wait until the end of the year.

Sad to see her go.

Q. Patty Schnyder obviously retired this past weekend. I remember you had some savage battles with her brother. I'm wondering what it means to you that she is retiring? Do you have any memories of her from early on?

ROGER FEDERER: Yeah, I mean, I have a lot of memories from her brother. We played 15 times. We're good friends. We didn't practice together, but obviously spent a lot of time at the tournaments and so forth.

Patty was obviously-- because she was two years older and women develop quicker and have quicker success, she was always someone sort of to look up to in the region especially. I even ball-boyed her once at a prize-money tournament in my club.

So I always followed her very closely, always very friendly. I thought she had a great career. She said it herself. She beat everybody who was in the game. I remember I even went to the stadium at the US Open when she beat Steffi Graf and was able to watch that years ago.

Yeah, I mean, we were very fortunate having such great players over the past few years with Hingis, Schnyder, and Stan now, and Rosset and so forth. I think we've had a wonderful spell of players. Yeah, it's unfortunate to see her retire, but she's been one of the girls who hung in there for a very long time. I think that deserves a lot of respect, obviously. http://www.thesportscampus.com/20110...-roger-federer

Who is Patty's brother? I never knew about him.

I looked on Google. Apparently, his name is Daniel Schnyder and he used to beat up on young Federer, was at some point 8-1 against him. But no record of him on ITF's website
