Jamie Hampton is blogging from Stuttgart as a practice partner for the Fed Cup team -- so -- she's gonna hop across town and do this as well?

Does the lucky loser get Franny's bye? If so, where can I bet all my money against the highest ranked woman in the qualies finals?

What's up with Schiavone? And Caroline's draw just got easier. Any bets on which of JJ, Kvitova, Petkovic being the one to meet her?

Francesca withdrew citing "exhaustion".
Wickmayer cited a knee injury that she feels needs tending to.

Jankovic is definitely the favorite. I have no idea how Kvitova and Petkovic will do on clay.

Weird. Apparently, Fran's still in the tourney.

@WTA

Happy to report that Schiavone has not withdrawn from Stuttgart - she's just finished a great practise session. #tennis

I watched both of Petkovic's matches during Fed Cup. She seems quite comfortable on the surface. If anything, the slower conditions seem to give her more time to line up and smack an even more screaming winner than what she pulls off on hardcourts. Of course, that will help her have a very successful clay court season, culminating in an appearance in the French Open final, where she'll lose, and after which she won't be able to beat a rug ever again. Sound familiar?

Italian website reporting Fran out. http://bit.ly/fwPUVs

WTA person says it's Kvitova who has withdrawn along with Wickmayer.

Kfish_WTA Kevin Fischer
After w/d of Kvitova (lower back) and Wickmayer (knee) 2 more qualifiers will advance to main draw @WTA Stuttgart

Make that "semifinal' and I think you're talking about Clarisa Fernandez.
