I saw her draw and thought "She owes somebody a muffin basket."

Pironkova has been playing terrible tennis since Wimbledon, and Pennetta hasn't been playing well either, and is seeded to lose to Peer. Venus' most likely path to the QF is scrub-scrub-scrub-Peer.

The bottom half will be a little tougher to come through, but for once, it seems the draw is fairly balanced.

Except for the Jarka and Maria first round, I think the draw is pretty good. I see Caro/Maria/Jelena out on top and Vika/Venus on bottom.

Or Robson/Oudin!

I see Venus' favorite people, Pironkova and Pennetta, could be waiting for her in the 3rd and 4th round.

I agree with the balance comments - I think this is about as balanced a draw as we have had at the USO in some time. Makes me even more excited about the tournament.

Go Laura!

Vika got a similar draw with a bunch of players who recently beat her. Dulko (this year's French), Patiofurniture (who just makes me nervous) and Franny (who knocked her out of last year's USO).

I would LOVE a Venus-Vika quarterfinal. It would be a massive hotmess of awesome.

But really, aside from Saint Kim and Venus being on the same side, it's really balanced.

Yeah, balanced draw.

Still, not loving that Venus has Pennetta AND Prinkova on her side so early D:

Looking at Kaia's draw, I think she's got a good chance to be playing much much deeper than the first round. She's healthy, I can see her easily matching her Wimbledon result.

I'm not sure Pironkova will get past Vinci.

Flavia just gave Woz a walkover by withdrawing with what ESPN says is a foot injury.

CaroWozniacki

Flavia withdrew from the tournament, so we don't play today! I have semis tomorrow!
