MJS will let her play a dead rubber if there is one or she won't even show up in the stadium

The best part would be watching her force herself to clap. And cheer. You know, for the team.

The USTA and U.S. Fed Cup Captain Mary Joe Fernandez announced that world No. 1 and 13-time Grand Slam singles champion Serena Williams and world No. 4 and five-time Wimbledon singles champion Venus Williams have committed to representing the U.S. in the 2010 Fed Cup by BNP Paribas World Group Final against Italy on an indoor hard court at the San Diego Sports Arena in San Diego, November 6-7. The Williams sisters will join the core U.S. Fed Cup group of 2009 US Open quarterfinalist Melanie Oudin, Bethanie Mattek-Sands and world No. 1 doubles player Liezel Huber, who have led the United States to its second straight Fed Cup Final.

"As captain, you always want to have your best players. I am very excited that Venus and Serena have made themselves available for the Fed Cup Final in San Diego," said Fernandez, who last year in her rookie season as captain led the U.S. to the Fed Cup Final for the first time since 2003. "Teaming Venus and Serena with Melanie, who continues to play an integral role in all of our Fed Cup matches, Bethanie, who has come through in decisive matches, and Liezel, who has been crucial in our doubles, we have one of the strongest line-ups in years. I strongly believe that this team can win the Fed Cup title on our home soil."

Kandi, you need to add a poll to this thread. Come Nov. 6th:

-Serena will have dropped out because of a fake injury
-Venus will have dropped out because of a real injury
-Both will have dropped out just to stick it to Mary Jo
-Both will actually show up and play

I'm hoping they do play. I'd go if they do.

Well, they have to play somewhere along the way to be eligible for the 2012 Olympics.

Venus hates playing indoors. Just sayin'. I don't know why. But she hates it. Of course, in November, I don't know what other options there really are in the states. Miami?

Oh, to be a fly on the wall in Melanie's bedroom... Though the way she has been playing lately, she's probably breathing a giant sigh of relief.

Didn't Venus win something like 4 indoor titles in a row just a couple of years ago?

She won Zurich in 2008, which was indoors. Other than that, I can't think of anything recent. But still, that's pretty recent.

Hmmm, maybe that only happened in the movie in my mind.

Venus has won a decent number of indoor titles. But when she has choices, she always opts for outdoor hardcourts compared to indoors. For example, the way she shunned the YEC when it was held indoors but not when it was outdoors.

I've never understood it. I would think indoor conditions would be more predictable.

But yes, she has indoor titles, to be sure. Several of them. She just avoids it, for some reason.
