Ashley Harkleroad, Omess. She lived in Flintstone, Gerogia at one time, which is where she got the tag.

Who is Paris Williams? Any relation to the sisters? I don't think I've ever encountered that name before and she's been given a wc so obviously...she's done something....

I googled her (and got pics of Venus and Serena in Paris) and checked out the WTA site and....nada...

Anyone familiar with her?

I'm looking at the draw right now from Stanford's site and there is no Paris Williams on it.

Bethel High School's soon-to-be senior Paris Williams gets her chance to play some of the best tennis players in the world today after becoming a wild-card entrant in the Bank of the West Classic at Stanford University.

Williams turned 16 last December and competes in her second tournament against adults this year. She won the Oakland City Championships in June

Very nice seeing Jidkova's name in the qualy draw. But you gotta wonder (and I don't say this to slight her, because I like her) where does the drive come from at this stage of your career?

She's 33 and hasn't made it to a main level WTA match all year (she has not won a WTA level main draw match since the old Quebec City event back in the fall of 2007). She mixes ITF events with attempts to qualify into a number of tour events each year.

Stanford qualies is the 14th event she has entered this season. Her record for the year is 7-13. Yet she finds the motivation to pick up and move on to the next city week after week, while not even (seemingly) making enough money for airfare to the next tournament.

It's probably the same thing that keeps Jill Craybas coming back year after year after year after century....without doing that much of significance in the tennis world......except coming back year after year after year after ....century!

That year that she did really well at Wimbledon....she was interviewed by the sports desk covering the event and the only thing she had say really...(beaming all the while) is that she loves tennis How's that for motivation?

No doubles pairing of Sharapova/Wickmayer. They weren't given a wildcard because they'd have to be in top 10 to get one for doubles, per Wickmayer

What I don't understand is the fiscal feasibility of it all. All those travel expenses, hotels, etc. I just don't understand how she can begin to break even financially.

Jidkova ALSO "won" the Texas section for this US Open National Playoff business to try to earn a way into the qualifying for the US Open. Which BTW I think is totally ridiculous- too many current scrubs and former players who have been in Slam draws have been allowed to play in this thing. Makes this even IMO a LOT less fun, or fair.
