Allow me to christen the discussion.

I hate it.

The top half is just ridiculously loaded.

I'm not a fan either. My first reaction was "lop-sided" but if you look at the top half closely, all you have is a good ol' Serena-Justine quarterfinal.

Also, P-A-T-T-Y! P-A-T-T-Y!
(I'm starting my campaign against an All-Williams final)

Venus got Martinez-Sanchez and Rezai (Azarenka, too, but who knows how healthy she is...)in her quarter. Wozniacki couldn't have asked for a better draw, IMO.
. Ugh. that sucks. Rezai was the one person I didn't want Venus to get in her draw.

LOL. I wish.

Rezai and Martinez Sanchez both have fantastic draws to make an odd run, IMO.

I find the prospect of Maria V. Justine very interesting. Maria didn't perform so badly against her five years ago here, so if her shoulder holds up, it might actually be entertaining.

I have a silly question for everyone, don't laugh too loud

By looking at the draw sheet, how can I tell what the potential qtrs will be? Do I just look at the players in sets of a certain number which will determine a draw quarter?

Thanks!

Groupings of four sets of four matches (16 matches make a quarter)...take the Top Half of the draw, jhl...Serena group through the grouping that begins with Zheng, and ends with Stosur. There will always be 2 seeds between 1 and 8 in a quarter, one in the first line, the other in the 16th line. So this quarter, if seeds held, would be Serena against Sam Stosur.

If not semi, then how about a quarterfinal.

The way the ladies have been playing, I'd say Schiavone (Q) or Safarova (R16) are her biggest barriers to the semis. I'm thinking Caro is pretty much a non-factor til she lets that gimpy ankle heal.

Moose,

Thanks SO much for explaining that. I usually just go line by line and sometimes I'm like WTH, how did I miss that potential match!

Thanks again!

Glad to help, Jlh.

With a Slam, a quarter will always contain 32 players. That will change for other events, depending on the size of the draw.

With her draw, I wouldn't even be surprised. And she's seeded!

Speaking of seeds, looks like Melanie missed her chance.

I'm kinda glad that Justine drew the Pit Bull first round. Tsvetana's among the best of the lower ranked players who seem to take motivation from playing a favorite.

Serena and both Clay Queens in the same quarter. Fun

Jankovic has it easy up to the semis.

I do hope Jankovic can win this. A single's slam is way ooooovvvvveeeerrrrrddduuuueeee. I just can't imagine Justine winning the French again.

If Jelena has to play Justine, she's toast. Otherwise, I can definitely see Jelena having a great shot at winning this tournament.

Rezai could face Petrova in the 3rd Round. Szavay's in there, too.

Martinez Sanchez does have an excellent chance with at LEAST making the QF- unless Azarenka finds a miracle cure for her ailments, or Elena D. ever decides to wake up. Dulko and Medina Garrigues could be problems here, too.

NOW let's first get V through Wacky and Parra Santonja. STILL, once again, the Draw Gods HAVE been pretty favorable to V. She could have done much, much worse. Albeit, let's face it- V against anyone in the world's scary for us V fans at Roland Garros. (BRING ON WIMBLEDON ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!)

I think chances of seeing Venus-Rezai again are high Petrova or no Petrova.
