So much for RRS's "I'll hide out in South America, practice my clay game, and prepare myself to win Roland Garros" strategy!

Result is not surprising and the reasons he is trying to play more on clay are:
1. He just got Argentinian coach
2. He is horrible on clay
3. Clay is great surface to try to improve baseline game, which in his case is nowhere to be found at this point.
4. Playing on it makes one stronger physically.

Overall, it is right move.

Gasquet begins "Operation Tango" February 13, 2010
Richard Gasquet, now working with Argentine coach Gabriel Markus, tells L'Equipe he is playing on clay in South America this month instead of indoors in Europe to improve his chances of making an impact at the French Open.

Gasquet, who has never been past the third round at his home Grand Slam, was unable to play Costa do Sauipe last week because of a rib injury but is taking part in Buenos Aires next week. "I came here to play on clay because it's here you construct points, where you accquire the mentality to play long points and close matches," he said."I want to come ready to Roland Garros. I need two or three months to get back to where I was. I know I can get back to the semifinals of a Grand Slam, and who knows what could come next..."

I once thought Bolelli was going to be a consistent top 30 type player. He'll soon not be able to get into any events directly.

Marseille looks to have an interesting entry list - I like the number of top 10 players entered...especially with the likes of Murray, Delpo and Tsonga/Monfils (assuming they aren't injured for the 5,000th time)

That field will be better than the 500 field in Memphis despite the talent level being upgraded this year.

Marseille and B's A's updates:

Andreas Beck is out and Marcel Granollers is in at Marseille. Granollers has also made the MD in B'sAs.

It's also being reported that DelPo is out of Marseille as well as well as Dubai and DC. No confirmation. Next in would be Brands.

Buenos Aires
OUT - Mathieu, Bellucci, Acasuso
IN - Lorenzi, Daniel, Granollers

Marseille
OUT - Beck
IN - Granollers

Also Marseille:

Main sponsor BNP Paribas will offer a WC in the qualies for an amateur who win a prequalifying event in two phases:
- first phase in 8 french cities with 64 draws played with super tie-break
- final phase in Paris: 8 winners of previous event playing bet of 3 set matches
- winner will get a one week preparation with a coach and will play
Thibault Venturino won the event and will play the qualies.

Del Potro out for 8 weeks

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP)—U.S. Open champion Juan Martin del Potro has injured his wrist and is expected to miss Argentina’s Davis Cup series against Sweden next month.

Del Potro was injured Thursday during a practice session. He has been bothered by tendinitis in his wrist for months.

At the Shanghai Masters in October, he retired in the second set because of the injury. He pulled out of an exhibition tournament just days before last month’s Australian Open with the same problem.

Martiniano Orazi, Del Potro’s trainer, said the No. 5-ranked player would need four weeks of rest and four more weeks to get back into playing shape. The Davis Cup series is March 5-7 in Stockholm.
