Default 2009 Quotes Of The Year
I'm sure we have some in other spots, but since Tennis Talk just published it's best of the year, I thought I would post a few in this thread, and invite everyone to contribute any more that they have, or find along the way.

“I think the difference is based on the fact that his game is really a pain in the ass.”
-- Gael Monfils, after losing to Federer at the French Open, when asked what the difference is between him and Federer.

“When you're that close to winning, it hurts when you play against the second best player in the world.”
-- Tommy Haas, after losing to Federer at the French Open.

“Well, what are the options? I can sit out there and watch the celebration, watch the interview, or go to the locker room. At that point the locker room sounded like a good place to be.”
-- Roddick, when asked why he walked off the court so fast after losing to John Isner at the U.S. Open.

“I have two dreams. One is the U.S. Open. The other one is be like Roger. One is done.”
-- Juan Martin Del Potro, during the U.S. Open trophy presentation.

Great!

“I'm different than another person who wants to lay back and do nothing for rest of the life and talk nonsense on ESPN, talk about my match against Sampras. I will not do that. I want to achieve something else.”
-- Marat Safin after his final Grand Slam match at the U.S. Open.

We will miss him!

Now Marta wants to achieve something?

Buddy, you had all the talent in the world to achieve a lot more than what you did in tennis. Stop fooling yourself. I see you on the Kafelnikov train, as patron, owner, conductor and passenger.

TennisTalk is an ATP players newsletter, Munchin, so they would not have carried any of the ladies. I started the thread so we could add stuff like...

"I'm going to get you in the locker room for that. You don't know me".
Serena, to Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez, French Open

But a mere three months later, we all got to know Serena a lot better

I think the main lesson we learned from that incident is that, in contrast to Maria who likes to allez it up your f***ing ass, Serena likes to shove it down your f***ing throat.

I'm sorry, I totally thought Maria likes to slit the throat altogether. Or is that so 2008?

For the ATP, I think my favorite is Kolya's "What? My hair is not good enough?".

Exchange of the year:

Q. This isn't your fault obviously because you played really well, but it's embarrassing for women's tennis to see the No. 1 destroyed in that way, isn't it?
VENUS WILLIAMS: Why do you put it like that?

Q. You played very well.
VENUS WILLIAMS: Are you trying to be down on women's tennis?

Q. I'm trying to be down on the way that Safina is the world No. 1 representing women's tennis.
VENUS WILLIAMS: So you're trying to be down basically.

Q. Not on women's tennis, no.
VENUS WILLIAMS: Okay, because I don't deal with down at all.

Q. It's not down.
VENUS WILLIAMS: I'm just making sure you're not trying to be down, because I respect Dinara Safina immensely, and I think you should, too.

Q. I do.
VENUS WILLIAMS: Thanks

I think the most devastating one....

"Why am I such a chicken"
Dinara Safina, directed at her coach during the French Open final against Sveta.

It still makes me cringe. Oh Dinara...

Surely, a different Dinara quote was personally more memorable for you

Ugh. I was so excited about the French, but Roger has had a lot of bitch moments this year.

So heartbreaking.

I think it sounds much more arrogant out of context. Here was the full quote:
Q. What do you think of Andy Murray's
rise to No. 2? Clearly that's due in no small
part that Nadal has had injury problems this
summer. Are you impressed with the progress
he's made? He's defending champion here,
and won another Masters Series. Do you see
him as another big threat in the weeks to
come?
ROGER FEDERER: Yeah, I mean, I think
he announced himself when he won here last year
in Cincy. From then on, he had an unbelievable
run, especially on the hardcourts. He's almost won
everything there is to win except, let's say US
Open and the Masters. He's done really well.
Doesn't come as a surprise to many people now.
Of course Andy and myself have both
benefited of Rafa being injured. We both took
advantage of it. I won both majors and he won
Toronto now, or Montreal.
He's done really well. I
think it all comes down the US Open for him. If he
loses early, he's not very happy having won here
and then losing there. He's doing well, and I
expect him to be a tough opponent in the future
obviously. http://www.cincytennis.com/Players/~...5CC4C835C.ashx

Don't remember it word-for-word, but I have to nominate Andy's "I'm one of the lucky ones" response to whether tennis is a cruel sport.

Love that Venus exchange too, omess!
