Default Pilot Pen Exiting Sponsorship
Pilot Pen Tennis seeking new sponsor
(AP) – 1 hour ago

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Pilot Pen Tennis at Yale is seeking a new title sponsor for the 2011 tournament and beyond.

Pilot Pen Corporation, entering its 15th year as the title sponsor, will end its partnership with the tournament after the 2010 event. Company officials called the move a difficult decision caused by the recession.

Tournament director Anne Worcester says Pilot Pen's long-term support of the tournament helped grow the sport in the Northeast and put the company in a strong position to attract a new sponsor.

Title sponsor benefits include naming rights and extensive brand exposure.

The 2009 Pilot Pen, won by Caroline Wozniacki and Fernando Verdasco, drew nearly 80,000 spectators and was televised nationally for 16 hours on ESPN2 and CBS Sports.

Darn shame. I thought Pilot Pen did an outstanding job promotion-wise.

Mercedes is out of the ATP Masters/1000 sponsorship (even though they bought in to the USO), Pilot Pen's out now as well. I think we'll probably hear a few more sponsorship withdraws/changes over the next few months.

Unfortunately, I agree about the sponsorship withdrawals.

Does that mean I should stop writing with a Pilot Precise?

A short while ago, I got an I-phone. While I love it, I did feel bad about not getting another Sony Ericsson phone. My last two phone were S-E's because of their sponsorship deal.

Well, given what I've spent on co-pays in the past several months, I can say with absolute certainty that Aetna has some expendable cash. The WTA and ATP should give them a call.

Didn't Aetna used to sponsor a tournament?

Yes. But they wouldn't cover anything so they eventually pulled the plug.
