A pair of Belgian players — US Open semifinalist Yanina Wickmayer and former Wimbledon semifinalist Xavier Malisse — have been ordered to appear before Belgian's anti-doping commission for violating the commission's whereabouts policy, Belgian news agency Belga reports, in comments republished by Reuters.
The World Anti-Doping Agency's whereabouts rules state athletes much inform authorities of their whereabouts between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. each day for a three-month period. Wickmayer violated that rule three times in the last 18 months and Malisse broke the rule twice and missed one doping test, according to the Belga report. Malisse is scheduled to meet with the disciplinary commission on October 8th where he will have the opportunity to explain his absences. Wickmayer is scheduled for an October 22nd meeting with the commission. Both players face posssible suspension. http://www.tennisweek.com/news/fulls...newsid=6640676 |

All Wickmayer had to do was register and she wouldn't be facing this. It's just you see a headline that says she's "to face doping tribunal", your first thought is she is being accused of doping, which she is not. |

If I have this right, there's no allegation that Yani doped. Only that she didn't tell the Belgian authorities where she was. She didn't miss a test, didn't submit a hot urine. Yet, guaranteed, people will use this allegation to smear her rep. Wow. |

Yea, I don't mean to say she's blameless, Ti. You're absolutely right about complying with rules she agrees to. I was going to post about how odd it was that a lot of players have tested positive this year but then I read it all. Like you said, some people might think they're being accused of doping. and LOL@ "whereabouts policy" Such a silly name. |

I really wasn't sure how to name to thread. If I said "Face Doping Questions" it implies the same thing. I thought saying that they are facing a tribunal not "questions" would make it clearer. I apologize for that. |

Gosh, no it's not your fault. After I Googled the story to see if there was more information, almost everything appeared as Wickmayer Facing Doping Tribunal. It is what it is, and it has nothing to do with how you titled it. You go before the Doping Tribunal when you violate the Whereabouts policy...I don't think there's a "Whereabouts Tribunal". |

How strict is this policy? I understand that if you go on vacation to say, Aruba, you have to tell them where you are going, the dates, and where you are staying. But, what if you go scuba diving and are not at the hotel when they show up? Do you have to text them?
What if you are Kim, and you tell them you will be home, but then run to the grocery store at 8:30 PM to pick up some diapers, and they show up at 9:00 PM? |

What if you are Dinara, who really doesn't know where she is going to be on a Sunday afternoon?
"Maybe I will be in Tokyo, playing a final, or maybe I will be back in Moscow, trying to figure out what the hell happens to me when I am serving up 5-4 in the third, or maybe I will be in Tegucigalpa, playing a qualifier..." Seeing how accurate the testing can be (they picked up nanograms of cocaine in both Hingis and Gasquet samples) why should they show up ANYTIME they want? Just tell the players that everybody has to submit an urine sample AND a bit of hair at the beginning of every tourney they play. It is not as if these "drugs" fade out of a player's system in 24 hours. |

I'm a little surprised. Wickmeyer has been playing very well lately....I'm a trifle surprised she wasn't more cautious about complying with doping regulations.
No matter how silly (and the "whereabouts policy" is silly) .....it is the responsibility of each player to be informed and comply with said rules. I'm just surprised at Wickmeyer. Not informing 3 times certainly leaves room for a hardline approach and conjecture about why she didn't inform them And even if she forgot...she should have informed them immediately when she remembered. |

According to the rule, 3 missed tests in a 18 months period equal a doping offence but the head commission said it will be up to the tribunal to decide if she will be ban.

It's definitely sucky for both Yanina and Xavier to be in the middle of this when they're definitely not in trouble for doping. But yet at the same time, as silly as this policy may sound it's still a policy and Yanina and Xavier broke that policy. It's sort of like when you're in high school, you're tardy three times and you get a detention.
