Default Nalbandian preparing for return to play
05/10/2009

David is Fine and will make his Comeback in San Juan

Having the approval of his doctor, the Spaniard Ángel Ruiz Cotorro, David Nalbandian will make his comeback at the Copa San Juan Minero to be played between December 12th and 13th in the Aldo Cantoni Stadium in that city. The player from Córdoba spent a week in Barcelona to have a routine check-up after the hip surgery, and he now has his doctor’s approval. This tennis quadrangular will take place on December 12th and 13th and, apart from “King” David, Gastón Gaudio, Guillermo Cañas and the Chilean medal winner Nicolás Massú are expected to be there. Last May 13th the man from Unquillo underwent surgery due to a problem in a hip cartilage which cushions the movement of the femur. He was in much pain and could not play as normal. But his recovery has been good and he is already increasing the training time on court.

Nalbandian gets ready to recover Lost Ground

David Nalbandian, the player from Córdoba, who has been sidelined since August due to a hip surgery, went down three positions in the world ranking of tennis and is now ranked 17th. But the man from Unquillo is not worried; he goes on training to be on top form again. The date for his return to the courts has been set (the exhibition in San Juan) ,and he is really motivated. Besides, as he increases the training time on court, feels more and more self-confident since he feels no pain in the hip. However, he does not want to rush. First, he will try in the exhibition in San Juan between December 12th and 13th, and the following week he will participate in the Copa Argentina, at the Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis. http://www.davidnalbandian.com/en/news/?n=578

I would have thought that with French cuisine on the horizon, Dave would have rushed back for Paris.

Good to see him back on the radar.

The Vamos David web site has posted the video of an interview that he did with Fox Sports on October 9, so you can see how he looks now. They also have an English translation.

In a printed interview with his brother, also posted on that site, his brother says that David is about 3 kilos over his target weight right now.

It IS heartwarming to know that Nalbandian can stall the inevitable remaining years of banal, mind-numbingly lonely anonymity with some more Underacheiving Moments Of Hope-Crashing Failures! And no diet required!!

David Nalbandian will play at the Heineken Open in New Zealand next January as part of his comeback following hip surgery.

The Argentinian went under the knife in May and is gearing up to return to the ATP Tour at the start of next season.

Nalbandian plans to compete at the Auckland event from January 11-16 ahead of the following week's Australian Open.

"Nalbandian is a quality player who has something special in his game as witnessed by his grand slam record of having reached a final and several semi-finals," said tournament director Richard Palmer.

"He's the sort of player who has the ability to really challenge for the Heineken Open title and get back into the top 10."

Nalbandian, 27, has won 10 ATP Tour titles and reached a peak of number three in the world rankings in March 2006. He is currently down at 20th due to recent inactivity. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,195...643560,00.html
