Default Roddick doesn't need surgery - expects to play Paris Masters
Injured Roddick to re-join World Finals chase at Paris Bercy

10/17/09 11:04 AM | Johan Lindahl

The race for the last three spots in the ATP World Tour Finals in November could go down to the wire, with injured Andy Roddick expected back healthy in time to play in the Paris Masters early next month.

The American was one of eight players who have so far retired at this week's Shanghai event, going out with a left knee injury. But tests at his home in Texas showed that the three-time Wimbledon finalist just needs three weeks of rest - and no surgery.

That would keep the current No. 6 in the chase for the eight-man London season-ending event.

"Results of the MRI (scan) showed a mild sprain of his medial collateral ligament of the left knee," read a a statement on Roddick's website.

"The news was very good for Andy. No surgery will be needed and Andy is expected to make a 100 percent recovery. Andy will rest and receive treatments and will be expected to start activity in two to three weeks."

The Paris tournament is the last chance for players to reach London, which begins on November 22. Already qualified: Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray and Juan Martin Del Potro.

Roddick has a cushion of around 1,300 points on his nearest rivals, Fernando Verdasco, Robin Söderling, Shanghai finalist Nikolay Davydenko, and Fernando Gonzalez. http://www.tennistalk.com/en/news/20...at_Paris_Bercy
