Default Golovin: Career's likely over
The personality-laden Tati Golovin told L’Equipe that she’s pretty much done as she’s been diagnosed with spondylitis of the back, similar to the alleged injury that ended another ex-Bollettieri student’s career, Anna Kournikova.

"Do I have any chance to play again? It's not advised, but I'm still young,” she said. “The pain may suddenly disappear. If I do have to give up tennis, it will be for launching into humanitarian work, to find something meaningful. Tennis was for me like a baby, who I carried and who grows up at some time or another; you're proud of him, like I was proud of my tennis." That, by way, doesn’t mean that she’s actually pregnant.

Too bad. At least she will move on to some goodness. I will not forget the twisted ankle match with Sharapova diva-ing out and claiming not to notice as she stared at the back walls and Yuri acted like......Yuri acts.

Pretty sure this is the L'Equipe article...maybe one of our French speaking members can give a little bit of translating.

Personally, I find it sad. Loved Tati. She had the kind of personality sadly missing in the sport, and when her game was working, she could be mighty fun to watch. That match against Sharapova at Miami in 2006 featured some of the best shotmaking I saw that entire year. The forehands the two of them traded in the 3rd set, up til Tati rolled over on her ankle, were just fantastic.

And I never got to see her play live, which is a disappointment.

Yeah her back has been crap for a long time now, which is heartbreaking because I loved her the first time I saw her play, Aussie Open 2004 when she was a baby herself. Her game was so well balanced. I just hope she can get healthy enough for everyday stuff and find happiness.

As they say on wtaworld: Viva La Tati!

You'll all be shocked to know I'm not the president of Tati's fan club, but that's no way to end a career

She's smartly started foraying into broadcasting, so I'm sure she'll be able to do something tennis-related if she wants to.

She was friggin amazing, and brought a level of fun-loving skankiness that the Cibulkovas and Radwanskas of today just can't hold a candle to. RIP Tati.

Awww. I guess this news isn't that surprising, but it's still sad to read. Good luck in the future, Tati!

I want Tati to have an amazing post-tennis career as a B movie actress. Prison vamp, pole dancer, and slutty preacher's daughter type of roles would suit her quite, quite well and she would have legions upon legions of fans.

I've been missing you already, Tati.

Ah ... memories of Tati:

red panties at Wimbledon
that Miami match with the rolled ankle (where I first came to loathe Sharapova for her inconsiderate behavior)
and Golovin's great run in the fall of 2007, where it seemed only Justine could take her out.

I'll miss her most for the "mild dislike" she invoked in mmmm8.

She was my favorite of the young crop. But this has seemed inevitable for a while.

So inevitable that I pretty much crossed her off.

Still, sad to see such a young player go. There was some promise there.

I'll miss Tati dearly, but at least she's not free to host all of our SP from here on out.

Yeah, agreed, on both points. I'd heard she'd kept up the illusion of her possibly coming back to just satisfy sponsors.
