If there was anyone I'd want to beat Venus, it would be Angela Haynes.

Jesus. This is one of the harshest things I've ever read on this site. It doesn't sound like it came from a fan at all.

OK, last time, I swear......just wish i knew how to quit ya.....

Didn't know whether to put this here, in a US Open thread, or in Random. It's a nice reward for someone who is playing WTT and might not otherwise have a chance at getting into another draw at the USO:

US Open Wildcard Given to Top WTT Mixed Team

Published July 8, 2009
By Staff

The top mixed doubles players in the Advanta World TeamTennis Pro League will have more on the line this season than team pride and bonus money. The mixed doubles team that finishes at the top of the WTT Pro League rankings will receive a wild card into the 2009 US Open Mixed Doubles tournament.

More than 50 players are competing in the Advanta WTT Pro League this July for 10 franchises throughout the U.S. World TeamTennis matches feature three sets of doubles (men's, women's and mixed) along with one set each of men's and women's singles. With doubles making up sixty percent of the action, World TeamTennis provides a showcase for doubles standouts as well as helping to develop the games of some of the sport's up-and-comers.

"World TeamTennis has long featured some of the best players in the world, especially in doubles," said WTT CEO/Commissioner Ilana Kloss. "We are very excited to work with the USTA to provide our players with this opportunity to be rewarded for their high level of play."

The top mixed doubles team will be determined at the end of the 2009 regular season which concludes July 22. Follow the mixed doubles team rankings at www.WTT.com/leagueleaders.

The 2009 Advanta WTT Pro League season runs July 2-26 in 10 U.S. markets, and concludes with the Advanta WTT Finals on July 26 in Washington, D.C. The League, which showcases three generations of talent, features an all-star lineup of stars playing WTT this season including Andre Agassi, Venus Williams, Serena Williams, Martina Navratilova, John McEnroe, Kim Clijsters, Maria Sharapova, Michael Chang, and Bob and Mike Bryan.

The United States Tennis Association is a minority owner and promotional partner of World TeamTennis. WTT and the USTA are teaming up on number of initiatives, including development of the youth market through junior team tennis programs.

I get that Venus hearts Billie Jean, but she'll regret playing on that knee.

I foresee another year of being forced to skip the US Open Series.

Supposedly, Venus and Serena are scheduled to play Stanford on 7/27.

After hearing that she played this week, I'm starting to think that there's not much wrong with it...

.....Except for the part where she's now lost two singles sets in a row to scrubs- including most recently to a scrub who lost her flippin' Wimbledon QF JUNIORS match after winnin' only one game.

(I get that V's losin' to ANYONE in WTT ain't exactly always a sign to panic. But, still......)

I somehow think that Venus, more than other player totally gets and appreciates what BJK has done for women and women's tennis and bad knee or not, Venus probably feels forever indebted to BJK. Venus gets it. She's rich, famous, and is fully aware of why she's gotten those things and seems to have the highest of moral standing I've ever seen from a pro athlete.
