The marquee match in the womens' semis tomorrow feature two former #1s, former USO Champions, and two women who are both currently riding a 12 match winning streak at the US Open.
Serena, the Number 1 player in the world Number 2 player in the WTA rankings, and defending champion. Usually has one or so dodgy matches in the early rounds, and then finds her groove on her way to invincibility in the late rounds. Didn't do that this go round. Instead, she has played lights out tennis from Match #1. Yet to drop a set, yet to even face a set point against her. Kim. Oh, who else beleives Jada was adopted, and Mrs. Lynch has just been hiding out at some tennis club in Bree, playing daily and awaiting her moment? Takes 2 and a half years off, and comes back and gets to the semis of a Slam in her third tournament. Anyone else remember the last time Kim's third tournament back required her to play 7 matches to win a title? This surface is favorable to both of their games. Their first meeting happened here 10 years ago last Saturday (a match I attended, as all of you have heard far too many times over the years). Kim served for the match. And we all know what happened. And what happened when they met on hard court again. And again. And again. Serena ahead in the career h2h 7-1. Serena is 7-0 on hardcourts, 2-0 at Slams. Is this truly a different Kim? And even if it is, will it matter? |
