If Davydenko was capable of outplaying Federer, you'd think he'd have done it by now. He's 0-12 against Fed.
Think about when Federer was upset by Roddick and Blake. In both cases, Federer had won the last huge string of matches (11 and 8, respectively) against them. They were both on a hard court. Federer was sloppy in both, and his opponent had given up enough to start swinging freely for the first time in years. Also, think of when Davydenko beat Nadal in Miami. He was not given good odds. It was a huge match. Still, somehow he was ably to be aggressive and not freak out. An upset is certainly possible.

The big difference is that this is a slam. A "Haas at the French Open" situation is more likely than an actual win. Davydenko would have to get past Soderling first, too, which is probably a toss up at best.

Anyhoo, while not likely, I think it would be a mistake to scoff at the possibility of an upset.

Two good chances at majors where nerves got to him--the AO the year Fed beat Baghdatis in the final, and RG 2007 where each set was very tight.

But it's hard to see Davydenko getting by Soderling tomorrow. I hope I'm wrong about that.

Federer hasn't looked great to me so far this tournament. Also, it seems like the press has pencilled him into the finals already. I believe he's mentioned that he has a shot at winning all four slams in a row because now all he needs are the two HC ones. Basically, I think he may be overconfident and not playing his best, so an upset is possible. Davydenko and Soderling are two of the few players with the talent to do it.
Upsets are always possible, but closing out Roger in a GS tournament is mighty difficult (even more than doing it to Serena). Doubly so if you have lost the last dozen matches against him.

As for not playing well, Roger will raise his level when necessary just as he did in Cincinnati.

Those were so last year.....It was a miserable year for him. He also lost to Fish(5 matches winning streak) , Stepanek(4 matches winning streak), Karlovic( 6 matches winning streak).

And even last year he lost only to Nadal and Djokovic in slams.

I wish to express my huge thanks to sites like fromsport. I can still watch tennis today, despite my local CBS station choosing (for the umpteenth) year) to show the Jerry Lewis teleton.

Ouch. You know how some matches are closer than the score indicates? This certainly wasn't one of them. What a match from Kateryna!
