Elena Dementieva (RUS)[4

Yaroslava Shvedova (KAZ) v. Jelena Jankovic (SRB)[5]

James Blake (USA)[21]

Christina McHale (USA) v. Maria Sharapova (RUS)[29]

Marc Gicquel (FRA) v. Andy Roddick (USA)[5]
All of these matches on Arthur Ashe could be tougher for the seed than you might expect. I think there'll be at least a couple of really fun matches.

Don't agree about the Jankovic and Sharapova matches. Is McHale a big name in the juniors?

Mchale is a 17 years old ranked #10 in juniors. Lost in the first round of Junior Wimbledon and third of Junior Roland Garros.

Shvedova has challenged players like Azarenka and Sharapova this year, and beaten middle names like Vaidisova, Stosur, and Hantuchova.

I don't know much about McHale except that she just had a good win and the crowd will be behind her. That could be all it takes to challenge Sharapova these days.

I could camp out at Court 4 all day! But I'll probably start in Ashe... Go to Court 4 to catch Alize's tears... Swing over the Grandstand to get some closeups of Venus in doubles... Things could be fun on Armstrong late in the afternoon... Gotta check in on Dusan and Mashona's matches... There's actually a decent chance for some alternative late-night action on Grandstand instead of watching Roddick in Ashe. But I have a lot of respect for Gicquel, so I may stay put for the night matches.

Moose, I'll be at as much of the PEHK match as I can possibly catch... First, I really want PEHK to win, of course... Second, watching Devvarman lose could be the highlight of my 2009 USO experience.

It's not as good as what today's schedule was, which I hardly got to watch ANY of because I was in transit... But it'll still be fun.

::

But it all depends on how my back feels in the morning after the long drive here. I hope I can be as mobile as I want to be.

McHale was the girl from this year's AO who lost 9-7 in the third to an Aussie wild card in the first round. It was in the heat, and both were cramping miserably, and ESPN played up the juh-RAMA.

I only remember this because I met and talked to McHale when I was at the tournament the next week after she won the girls' doubles title. I told her everyone back home watched her in the main draw and was so proud of her (blatant lie).

Tell Philipp I said hello, Dry. He went out in the 2nd round last year (to Troicki), so you have to cheer him on. I'm looking forward to a PEHK/Radek 3rd rounder on Saturday as part of my USO experience this year.

Gotta check in on Dusan and Mashona's matches...
Dusan = dreamy... (Ignore the pictures on the ATP site, he's much better in person.) Tell him I send my love! I'd say the same for Juan Monaco but pretty boy got his butt DelPo'd today so he won't be around.

I'm kind of scratching my head at the Armstrong schedule. I guess you work with what you have... I'd be miffed if I payed for that, though.

Why is it that Lleyton seems to always play Federer or the number 1 seed within the first few rounds? Or am I just imagining that? It seems like he's always in that region of the draw.

That kind of thing happens sometimes. The Grandstand is my favorite court, so I usually try to spend a lot of time there. But seriously, I think Court 4's schedule today is the bomb with a lot of potential for contentious matches of either the high quality or messy variety. I'm in a good mood, so I'll enjoy either today.

Dusan played mixed with Kveta Peschke a year or two ago. It's actually kind of a relief that she's out with injury because she's NEVER won a match when I was there watching. Apparently, I'm the kiss of death. But Dusan is a BLAST to watch, both in terms of his game and his personality. Never a dull moment.

We're definitely going to let Philipp know that we're there, Moose. And if we get the chance, we'll be sure to tell him that his good friend and #1 supporter from Indian Wells sends his best wishes and will be on hand to resume carrying the PEHK fan torch on Saturday when Philipp faces the nightcrawler worm.

Bad luck but he wasn't at Wimbledon. Would have played Nadal in R16 at AO.

I didn't really take note of court 4. My scanning of the OoP was sidetracked too early....
Devvarman, huh?

I vaguely remember reading something quite mean about him. I think the author was claiming that he was one of the worst that sucked the talent and interest out of any match he was in? Should I avoid trying to catch that one in case he draws Phillip into ugly tennis?

Maybe I'm thinking of the wrong person.

Actually even at Wimbledon , he was. He would have played Nadal in the secound round if Nadal hadn't withdrawn.

Devvarman gives you nothing. He's a dangerous opponent for Philipp, and not because he's a great player.

Will you see Elena today??? AHhhh, so jealous! But I should see her on Saturday (or maybe I'll abstain, since she loses when I'm around)...
