Maybe the suggestions about Vajda being on the outs weren't incorrect. This from Tennistalk, and while Nole says Vajda's still in the mix, it certainly sounds like there's a shake up underfoot in Camp Djokovic:

Djokovic has denied speculation that longtime coach Marian Vajda may not be a part of future plans. "He will always be part of my team", he told Balkan media. "We've worked through so many things".

"He's good for me on and off the court. But we may expand the team for the US Open".

That idea, also used by Andy Murray who pays a team of his own, is not unprecedented for Djokovic, who worked with Australian mark Woodforde for a period a few seasons ago on an advisory and tactical basis with Vadja still in overall coaching control.

Default Djokovic New Coach?
According to this report in a Spanish paper Novak has a new coach. Could this just be a misinterpretation of the Spanish?
This is the sentence in Spanish.
"Djokovic explicó que hace unas semanas decidió cambiar de entrenador y que ya prepara los nuevos desafíos
de la temporada junto al austríaco Gebhard Phil-Gritsch."

Google translates it this way:
"Djokovic explained that a few weeks ago and decided to change his coach who prepares the new challenges
of the season near the Austrian-Phil Gebhard Gritsch."

Maybe he's just Novak's new fitness coach?

Drop-Shot, anyone?

The translation is correct, but this is a fitness coach:

Thanks m8. There was a lot of speculation that Vajda was in trouble coming from the broadcast booth.

from the italian open website where djokovic spoke to the press after the exhibition and yup new fitness coach. he apparently is tired of all the forfeits and fitness problems.

girtsch used to coach thomas muster, an absolute fitness fanatic. and although nole says that of course they won't be starting from scratch, for girtsch it sure must feel like it!

Yeah, Entrenador means Trainer, but in other countries it's also used as Coach, so any of those could've been valid.

perhaps from here too
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/spo...cle6175478.ece

(..) Getting into shape is all the rage. Djokovic, the Serb, knows that he requires a decent defence of his title to withstand the weekly advance of Murray on his No 3 spot. To keep ahead of the game, he has hired Gebhard Phil-Gritsch, who trained Austria’s Thomas Muster to the world No 1 ranking on the back of a fitness regimen that would shame most sportsmen. “There has been a lot of innovation in my physical work,” Djokovic said. But he would reveal no more. It was a day for secrets

I too also remember Goodall and Koenig speculating about the sacking of Djoko's current coach if the results weren't better very soon, but I think the match in Monte Carlo showed that Djoko was back on track. Personally, I think Marian W. is safe"!

ah yes the article is about Fed and his *secret preparation* for Rome. The paragraph about Djoko is the very last one.

Per Cronin, Djokovic plans to begin working with Todd Martin in a coaching capacity after Cincinnati. Djokovic will also continue to include full-time coach Marian Vadja

Interesting. I wonder what he thinks Martin can bring to his game.

Cronin got that from everyone including other tennis writers tweeting over the past few days about seeing Martin hanging out with Nole's entourage and watching his matches with them.

Wasn't Martin coaching Mardy?

He certainly ought to be able to help with the transition game. Martin did that as well as anyone. And Nole with a first-rate transition game would be pretty dangerous and unpredictable.

That's not comforting.

The ability to continue to lose big Slam matches? (Albeit, it WOULD be annoying for Novak to degrade more Slam finals. STILL- as long as he continues to lose.....)

Be fair... some of those losses were quite exciting matches. He's one of those players I love to see when he is "on" and his opponent is too. If not... well... I don't really like to watch.
