You can't compare Andre's being gone with what Serena did! Agassi left the tour completely but didn't leave tennis. He went back to the challenger levels until he got himself straight as soon as he came back...he was in winning form He didn't really take "a year and a half" to get back in winning form, he actually left the tour and then came back and started winning again. He plowed right through the ATP. |

So you think that the WTA's field is "deep"? I just don't think so. My observations in the past 10 years is that if the Williams sisters or the Belgium girls weren't in the mix it was easy sailing for 2nd tier players like Miskina or Sharapova. |

Is that actually true? Some recent examples of players who were out a long time, did badly at first and then regained their former position? BTW, not to burst anyone's bubble - I didn't see Jelena's match against Dementieva, but I watched her first round against Sprem. Both played awfully and I was pretty sure Sprem was going to win. |

The name Rainer Schuettler rings a bell, although that's over now. |

And...I don't think Maria Sharapova is a 2nd tier tennis player. Try Cibulkova for that..... |
