Default Choose the Bryans' LA Outfit
FANS TO CHOOSE WHAT BRYANS WEAR IN LA
LA Tennis Open and adidas Team Up As Fans Pick Bryans' Clothes
Voting Open Now on Tournament Website
July 21, 2009
LOS ANGELES - Fans will have the opportunity to vote for what adidas clothes four-time LA Tennis Open Presented by Farmers Insurance Group doubles champions Bob and Mike Bryan will wear in their opening round match of the 2009 tournament.

adidas has made two different sets of clothing available to the Bryans, and fans can log in now to www.LATennisOpen.com to cast their votes for which shirt and shorts combination the twins should wear on court.

"It's pretty cool that the fans will get the chance to help us figure out what to wear," said Bob Bryan. "If we play well in these clothes, we may never change and we'll have our fans to thank."

"We've had a great partnership with adidas, as has the tournament in LA, so to do something like this with both of them is really cool," Mike Bryan added. "We can't really go wrong with either option, but we're definitely curious to see what the fans choose for us."

The Bryans have won the LA title in their previous two appearances, in 2006 and 2007, and will bring an eight match winning streak into the 2009 event. They missed the 2008 tournament to play the Beijing Olympics, where they claimed the bronze medal. Overall, they are 20-6 all-time in LA, having also won titles in 2001 and 2004.

Bob and Mike are tied for No. 1 in the ATP World Tour Doubles Rankings, and have won four titles in 2009 while reaching the finals at three other tournaments to post a season record of 43-11. In their careers, they've combined to win 53 titles, including seven at Grand Slam tournaments.

This year the LA Tennis Open Presented by Farmers Insurance Group is also interacting with fans through social media with various contests and specials to its friends and followers online. You can find the tournament at www.facebook.com/LATennisOpen and www.twitter.com/LATennisOpen.

The 83rd annual LA Tennis Open Presented by Farmers Insurance Group will be held July 27 - August 2, 2009 at the LA Tennis Center on UCLA's campus in Westwood. ESPN2 will broadcast eight hours of live television coverage this year, including singles quarterfinal, semifinal and championship matches. Tennis Channel will again provide additional broadcast coverage.

French Open semifinalist Fernando Gonzalez leads the 28-player singles field. Joining the Chilean are former champions Tommy Haas (2004 and 2006), Radek Stepanek (2007), two-time Grand Slam winner Marat Safin, 2006 Australian Open finalist Marcos Baghdatis, and Americans Mardy Fish and Sam Querrey.

In addition, the 2009 tournament will feature a special exhibition match on opening night, called the "Millennium Challenge" that will feature Safin against Pete Sampras in a rematch of the 2000 US Open that was won by the Russian. In addition, former champions Michael Chang, Jim Courier and Stefan Edberg will take part in legends matches during the week.

This is a fun idea, but the survey appears to be closed.

Don't be too disappointed Scotty. The Bryans playing the in buff was not a listed option anyway.

This was being heavily promoted on Twitter this morning. I'm surprised the contest is closed already.

Hmmm... open for one evening? A couple hours in the morning only?

That is one horribly designed contest.

If they're both tennis outfits, then that was no fun. Unless, of course, a Serena catsuit was an option.

Choose the Bryan brothers' shirt color? How 'bout who-gives-a-sh*t brown?

the survey is over (I guess they've already played a match?). But you can still "vote" (what good this does you, I'm not sure).

Good idea ... with a deadline that was too soon (or promotion was too late).

Free idea for tourney directors out there:
make a poll about what they'll wear onto court/during introductions that has some wacky options, like the gladiator gear Soderling donned in Hamburg this week.

You could definitely get some more fans to show up and pics taken if they might walk onto court in:
  • gorilla costumes
  • beach volleyball outfits
  • Zorro costumes
  • baseball uniforms
  • other
ideas?

I can think of several players who would benefit from such a contest.
