Yeah, I was talking about James' spot.

Keeping Roddick in is a given, but you'd like to transition into a new team eventually rather than have to replace most or all of them in one go. I think most do that team introduction with doubles, but Bryan and Bryan is kinda too good to tamper with except in last minute injury replacement.

  • Starters: Blake, Bryan brothers, Fish
  • Substitutes: Ginepri, Spadea, Isner
  • Suspension: Roddick

RUSSIA

  • Starters: Safin, Youzhny, Tursunov, Kunitsyn
  • Substitutes: Gabashvili, Elgin, Korolev
  • Suspension: Andreev, Davydenko

ARGENTINA

  • Starters: Monaco, Chela, Arnold Ker, Martin Vassallo Arguello
  • Substitutes: Del Potro, Canas, Calleri, Schwank, Junqueira, Puerta, Roitman
  • Suspension: Acasuso, Nalbandian

The US tie is on clay. Have you seen RG? I wouldn't take Blake as the team bellboy. Roddick on the other hand has somehow made his way to R-3 and taken a set off Federer on clay.

Nalby's suspension is in vane. He's already out due to surgery. A calm period of sorts.

Patrick McEnroe should be fired from Davis Cup if he actually plays James Blake instead of Sam Querrey. Sam actually can win matches on the surface, and James' attitude toward the surface should disqualify him from any Davis Cup match on the clay surface. Hell, even Odesnik would be a more sensible choice.

It does seem like it's the right time to rotate someone else in, though...

I mistakenly posted this in the Random Tennis thread. It really belongs here.

Nadal to miss next month's Davis Cup due to tendinitis in knees

LONDON (AP) -- Top-ranked Rafael Nadal was left off Spain's team for the Davis Cup quarterfinals on Tuesday because of sore knees.

Nadal has struggled with tendinitis in his knees, which forced him to skip defending his Wimbledon title. He has not played a tour match since losing in the fourth round at the French Open.

Fernando Verdasco, Tommy Robredo, David Ferrer and Feliciano Lopez will represent Spain when the defending champions host Germany on outdoor clay in Marbella, the International Tennis Federation said.

Less than 2 years after winning the whole thing? And having not lost on anything but clay in 4 years? I don't know that any new captain could do anything better at this point in American men's tennis.

I'll say this in James defense... A different James does seem to show up for Davis Cup and ARAG types of events on clay. Maybe it'll be okay. I guess there's also a part of me who wants to send a loud and clear message to James that his attitude about the surface needs to change. Though at his age, it would be a waste of time.

Anyway, it is what it is.

Oh wait, you were talking about James. I thought James7, was talking about moving someone into P-Mac's spot. Thatt didn't seem like a fruitful idea. I'm not averse to the idea of putting someone else in James' spot. Sam did a great job in a rather hopeless situation in Spain last year.

Oh. Yeah. LOL! No, I was definitely talking about BLAKE.

And yes, Sam has performed admirably on the surface at times.

Fish was allegedly looking better than ever behind the scenes. Must have been a last minute change of heart.
