[B]Wimbledon Championships 2009
Seeded Players in All Events
Main Draw
Some people got moved around. PEHK is ranked 33 this week, but gets the 27 spot, which moved him ahead off Troicki, who is ranked higher. F-Lo is jumped up 6 spots. James was dropped 2 spots (it looks like one, but with no Nalbandian, it's two)

Here's the current ATP Ranking through Haas, who looks to have just missed the seeding cut - next to it, in bold, their Wimbledon seeding:

1 Nadal, Rafael (ESP) 1
2 Federer, Roger (SUI) 2
3 Murray, Andy (GBR) 3
4 Djokovic, Novak (SRB) 4
5 del Potro, Juan Martin (ARG) 5
6 Roddick, Andy (USA) 6
7 Simon, Gilles (FRA) 8
8 Verdasco, Fernando (ESP) 7
9 Tsonga, Jo-Wilfried (FRA) 9
10 Gonzalez, Fernando (CHI) 10
11 Davydenko, Nikolay (RUS) 12
12 Soderling, Robin (SWE) 13
13 Cilic, Marin (CRO) 11
14 Monfils, Gael (FRA) 14
15 Robredo, Tommy (ESP) 16
16 Nalbandian, David (ARG) OUT
17 Blake, James (USA) 18
18 Wawrinka, Stanislas (SUI) 20
19 Ferrer, David (ESP) 17
20 Gasquet, Richard (FRA) OUT

Rainer gets the biggest love from the AEC, he's bumped up 11 slots. Marat right behind, gaining 8, which bumps him into a Top 16 position. Philipp and Feliciano are both bumped up 6 slots.

Andreev and Fish are both dropped four slots (six if you account for Nalby and Gasquet being out).

Love based on a formula. I bet I know who the highest seed to fall first will be!

This is an example why I kind of like the way Wimbledon does seeds. Maria surely ought to be seeded despite her...ahem...abysmal ranking. Go subjective seeding!

I kind of like it, too, only Venus should be seeded 1.

Nice to see Srebotnik back in action. Haven't seen her name on tour in a while.

They state their objective as evening the draw (I read that this year for the first time), so it's not about honoring players' successes per se

I might agree with you, had Kim not come into IW in 2005 with a ranking in the 130s and proceed to win 7 matches in a row to take the title. That event convinced me that players should play from where they are ranked, and not based on the subjective whims of a committee.

As a fan of momentous tennis matches, I disagree. A Venus-Maria match should take place in the 2nd week, not the 1st round. Sure, they're sort of meddling but I think it's positive meddling.
