Dokic out of qualies.

Back injury keeps Dokic out of warm-up
Valkerie Baynes

June 14, 2009 - 6:09AM
Australian tennis star Jelena Dokic decided not to play a key Wimbledon warm-up tournament because she is not fully fit after the back injury that forced her out of the French Open, her agent said on Saturday.
Lawrence Frankopan said Dokic's failure to sign on for qualifying at the AEGON International in Eastbourne had nothing to do with the family dramas that have plagued her career rearing their head again.
"In Paris she pulled her back and she's not yet fully fit," Frankopan told AAP.

"We feel that Wimbledon is really the highest priority for us, so until she is fully fit, we thought it would be counter-productive to play anything until that time."
Rather than casting doubt over the comeback queen's chances of making her first appearance at the All England club since 2004, he said her absence at Eastbourne was more a precaution ahead of the grand slam starting on June 22.
"We were just being especially cautious not playing at Eastbourne," he said.
"Not being 100 per cent, it's not really worth her going on court for her career going forward."
The former world No.4 trained at Eastbourne's Devonshire Park courts during the week.

Her decision not to contest qualifying for the tournament, starting on Monday, became apparent after her estranged father, Damir, was sentenced to 15 months in prison in Serbia on Thursday.
Damir was found guilty of making telephone threats to kill Australian ambassador to Belgrade Clare Birgin with a grenade launcher and for having a cache of illegal weapons.
Damir's lawyer said he plans to appeal.

Jelena was widely reported in Serbian newspapers and television broadcasts to have arrived in Belgrade on Thursday to be with her father amid concerns over his health.
Doctors had to treat the 50-year-old for hypertension as he waited to be sentenced.
But a family friend said Jelena and Damir would be reunited only after she had played at Wimbledon.

Frankopan refused to comment on whether the 26-year-old planned to visit her father, but said she had not done so.
"Absolutely she has not been in Serbia," he said.
"She's been at Eastbourne preparing for her tennis."

Just as yet another day-brightener for rabbit.....apparently in a brainiac move, Sania managed to get herself to this tournament right after losing her Birmingham SF, and then lost today to nelslus-household-favorite Poutchekin qualifying (assuming that livescores has posted this result accurately....) 6-4, 3-2 (ret.)

Good lord.
He was out injured for some of that period, Munchin. But still, this is a man who just four years ago was a Top 15 player, and a Slam semi-finalist.

Robby's career arc goes down as one of the most bizarre ever, in my book. Maybe it was just me, but I expected some pretty big things from him at one time.

Well, there was that too! I wish Youtube hadn't taken down the video.

His summer of '05 was fun and memorable. And then he pretty much stopped being a factor. Just weird how that happened.
