hmm. I'd put Venus/Lindsay 2005 on that list. It's, arguably, the greatest women's final.

Minus Fed/Nadal (which isn't even #1), the most recent match is 2001. And before that, 1993. So either the writer needs it to stand the test of time or the writer himself has stood the test of time.

As much as that match scarred me for life, Linds/Venus 2005 should be on here.

I consider that the finest women's match I have ever had the pleasure of witnessing. It certainly belongs on any such list.

And anyways, I liked both the quality and result of the Wimbledon 2007 final much better!

I agree - I'm shocked it's not on the list. It's #2 on my list of matches I wish I had on DVD that I don't (#1 being Safin/Federer, AO 05).

Personally, I'd put Steffi/Arantxa 1995 on this before Venus/Linds. Steffi and Arantxa played what was the single greatest game of tennis I have ever seen at 5-all in the 3rd set. One game that lasted in excess of 20 minutes, featured every single shot in the book, and, 14 years later, is still probably my single fondest memory of Wimbledon.

Agreed. It's hard to take a list that doesn't include it seriously.

But Moose is right, too... The 5-all game between Arantxa and Steffi was PHENOMENAL staff.

Since I don't believe in judging all time, I'll just say that among the best Wimbledon finals I've ever seen is, as others have already said, Lindsay vs. Venus. And while the Raja vs. Rafa classic (the 2008 version, though 2007 was quite something) turned into gold after the third-set tiebreak, I'd agree that the Borg vs. McEnroe final was better quality from both sides of the net from first point to last.

And with bea, I certainly enjoyed the 2001 men's final.

Did you see the whole match or did you skip a set here or there before forming this opinion?

My personal feeling about this match was that while it was entertaining, in the final moments it came down to who would crack first rather than who would come out and win it.

Still trying to sell that Seles-Sabatini match, are we?

Yes, I have seen the whole 2005 Wimbledon final probably about 6 times and I completely disagree. Venus totally came out and won it. If you have 10 minutes to spare, watch this:
Wimbledon 2005 Final - decisive moments The level of tennis is so high even at the end of the longest Wimbledon final in history (especially look at the rallies starting at 2:10, 7:45 and 8:31). This had nothing to do with a player "cracking," this was about both of them playing tennis that would have beaten anyone else in the world but Venus having more in the tank. Lindsay didn't crack. Venus earned the hell out of that break of serve at the end.

That's my favourite clip in the series because it has my favourite rally of all time.
That 25 shot rally when Venus was serving at 6-7, 15-30, was crazeh intense.
You can't see right there because they focus on Lindsay(I guess I watched it on the BBC feed or whatever), but both of them had to take a few seconds to gather themselves (Lindsay leaning on her racquet and Venus leaning against the back wall) after that point. IT was after that point that I realized that I was witnessing the greatest ladies' Wimbledon final.

It's my favourite point in the history of tennis.

(I've probably seen it more times than you have )
And I agree, they both would have beaten anyone else in the world that day on any day.

That is still my favorite second week of a slam that I've witnessed.
And I don't remember a single women's match.
