A bunch of us were at Patience's match against Kohli at Indian Wells. He played so well that day, it's hard to beleive the guy's a #32 seed in qualies! I know a number of TATeurs will be rooting for him to come through successfully, in the hope that he gets Rafa or Fed in the first round, and they get to see that very nice physique him on TV.

Zabaleta v. Olivier rochus as a first round qualie match....haven't both of them been main draw material most years of late?

I hope Michael Russell can get on a half decent run, and Scoville also.

It's so weird to see Venus' name so high up on the list.

Unrelated thought: I really like the way the RG site looks--slick.

What's the last time the defending champion at a major came in seeded as low as #8? Even Gaston Gaudio was the #5 seed in 2005!

It's probably a Williams, I'd venture...

Nope! Crazy. The special Wimbledon seeds helped her out. In 2006 Venus was the defending champ at Wimbledon and started the tournament ranked 12th, but she was seeded 6th. In 2008 she was ranked and seeded 7th.

Is it on the Williams sisters' performances in recent slams?

That doesn't seem like good writing...

unless you're David Mamet.

It's on the site now, Salmon:

http://www.rolandgarros.com/en_FR/sc.../us/index.html

To save you the trouble, her first match is against 14 seed Melanie Oudin. A win there and she plays the winner of Castano/Babet. Then, likely, 2 seed Maria Elena Camerin to get into the main draw.
